I was wondering what the staff and others think of the 'new' design the platoon has been running for a while now?

Personally i don't really like the 'new' style. I think the overall layout is not what it could have been (or what it should be). I think the logo gives too much the idea this is somekind of site for M.A.S.H. fans or somekind of Vietnam movie. The biggest reason for this is that the font is way off. I think there is a lack of images on the front page, like little screens at news articles in example etc. And there are some other minor things.

Thought to see how other people think about it right now.

I hope you see this as constructive critism (sometimes it's hard to express myself in english).

original idea was Munkey's, i built the style for the forums and someone did the style for the front page and website outside the forums.

the whole idea is to reflect our concentration of military/tactical games and keep it a bit less taxing on the server and save bandwidth and space. 11kb vs 100kb X ~2000 visitors a day, you do the math.

like Javaman said, if you have some better ideas, let us know. easier yet, find us a theme(vbulletin to start with) and we'll consider it. but for now, we'll stay with what we have.

i feel the frontpage is too narrow. It's suffacatingly thin. I know u want to hit a larger audience, but gamers usually have atleast 1024. I can't breathe. The news is hard to read

I'd lose the stars on the logo, lose the "powered by hypernia" and just give the whole site a little more colour/saturation. A little more olive (-drab) and less grey.

I designed the logo. The idea I had was to do something a little more "traditional" looking, instead of the "hi-tech" looking garbage lots of other gaming sites go with. The logo also had to be pretty "generic" since we were looking to cover a lot of different games and possibly RTS/Strategies as well (as was discussed at the time). I chose the font because stencils like that are used to "mark" just about everything in the service over here. Equipment crates, vehicles, etc. So when I see a stencil font like that my first thought is "military".

Anyway, I'm cool with changing it if that's what a lot of the members want. Just pointing out my motivations. We needed a logo, that was one of the designs I came up with, the staff seemed to like it, and that was what we used.

As for the Hypernia logo, it doesn't bug me too much -- although I'm not sure if it's the libery bell, a candy corn during re-entry, or what.

If anyone wants to submit a new logo design we can certainly put it to a vote with the rest of the members.

personally i dont mind it. of course stuff gets old tho.  i like the idea of keeping things small and better for the server.  thats why i like this design alot more.  everything is simple too.

I like the forums, just the main site doesn't apeal to me... it just needs some fine tuning......

i'll reiterate, if you guys come up with examples of what you'd like to see here changed or a style you want us to use please by all means point them out or draw some up. the more input we get the happier you all are. we are always open to suggestions.

i just hope people don't judge us too much by the way we look and more by what we provide. i know it's doesn't work that way but i can hope can't i?

you excited something in me(DO NOT turn that around or i'l...:wink:) we can have differant forum themes for each differant forum categories. ie: one for BF2 one for CoD one for FEAR etc. i'll look around for differant themes for those sections but in the meantime you all could do the same. heck, if any of you know how to theme for vBulletin i'll set up a test forum for just that and give you access and an ftp account to build it. i just don't have the time to build one or i would.
