the forums are fine. what you are seeing is my test of a front page. the forums url is  http://www.theplatoon.com/forum

we went with smf because vB is expensive to maintain, server usage and update price.

Dr. J picked it to give you a new type of forum to bitch about. Here, I'll get you started:

"SMF is soo slow. It's also not very secure, like... people hack it all the time."

"*Insert obscure overly-difficult BB program here* is soooooooo much better, because...."

In all seriousness there are some things that I don't like, and some things I really like, but in the end this is Dr. J's baby and whatever he feels like doing is fine with me.

It's ok Aramis. I don't mind. MO is a fan of PunBB(our last software) so I'm sure he's curious why we switched.

i was really just wondering why when i goto theplatoon.com it has an error and corrupt content then after a few secounds it reloads the page by itself and loads the forums just fine.

that error in my post is what i found on the top of the page to mabe help you diag the situation.

Well I thank you for the attention MO, however the situation is under control. Update your bookmark for ThePlatoon.com forums and I'll let everyone know when the front page is up and running.

Sorry. It was meant as some semi-serious teasing, but I came off as kind of a dick.

I don't get any errors myself (1st page non-withstanding) using the latest Firefox. Have you upgraded? It just came out a few days ago. I assume you're using Firefox and not IE.

There is a slight horizontal scroll bar at 1024x768.  Looks like a little funkyness with the #wrap definition.  Looks like it can be corrected if desired by altering the right and left padding from 20 px to 10 px.

#wrap {
   BORDER-RIGHT: #000000 1px solid; PADDING-RIGHT: 20px; BORDER-TOP: #000000 1px solid; PADDING-LEFT: 20px; BACKGROUND: #2c2a2a; PADDING-BOTTOM: 20px; MARGIN: 0px auto; BORDER-LEFT: #000000 1px solid; WIDTH: 97%; PADDING-TOP: 0px; BORDER-BOTTOM: #000000 1px solid; TEXT-ALIGN: left
}

Change to:

#wrap {
   BORDER-RIGHT: #000000 1px solid; PADDING-RIGHT: 10px; BORDER-TOP: #000000 1px solid; PADDING-LEFT: 10px; BACKGROUND: #2c2a2a; PADDING-BOTTOM: 20px; MARGIN: 0px auto; BORDER-LEFT: #000000 1px solid; WIDTH: 97%; PADDING-TOP: 0px; BORDER-BOTTOM: #000000 1px solid; TEXT-ALIGN: left
}

Thanks Autoload. I didn't see the scrollbar @ 1024x768 but I made the changes anyways.

Did it work for you?

have been using it for at least a year now. i noted using it in other threads too Tongue

firefox is much more features rich and i would love to use it, but it doesnt have a memory leak and its faster (ie7)

others think firefox is faster, but overall, ie7 is better in that respect.  i hate that i cant use plugins to do awesomethings so, that sucks.
