Well, it's been about a year or so now since we rebuilt the website and forums. What do you think? Anything we can change to make your visits better? Likes, disslikes? What did we nail down for the good? What can we improve on?
Let us have it(no attacking tho please :tongue:).

Archive of links and images, please. I've seen a lot of pictures and links in here that fall into specific categories that seem impossible to relocate. A simple 3-month-backwards display of forum posts with any pre-3-month-old posts archived for space-saving purposes and to allow quick searching for links and images.
Unless this would be too difficult.

time to real new people in. you havent got any reviews of games... just game details. how about make content people want to see and or use besides the forums.
forums are great and you have done a good job i belive. the front page has news often even tho its slow at times, but its more news than the previous platoon and that makes a differnce.
reviews and interviews would be great, get out there and get them, who cares what they are about, like an interview with computer hardware (for the games we play), whatever.

for some reason that one didn't play nice with the latest version of vB so i had to deactivate it. some time in the near future i'll rebuild it and make it availible to you all.

I have another one. As a mapmaker, I often find it difficult to create enough custom content to make a map the way I envision it to be. It's not difficult to locate stock items to place in a map, but a lot of those are kinda cheap looking. So, I think that The Platoon needs a section, area, or whatever you want to call it, for those of us willing to contribute content, to place or submit files or links for others, so that we may share some of our stuff, and so that we may browse others' stuff, to enhance our maps and to contribute to the creation of others' maps.
So I'd like a file/link area specifically catering to mappers and 3D artists.

how about a forum dedicated to this? it's easier to monitor permissions and downloads that way. just up the resources as file attachments. |

Personally.. I think there are too many forums. The console / PC / news submissions / etc. forums in gaming are overkill. I think it would be more simplistic if we could shave off the fat of this messageboard and have more concrete forums.

Forums I believe should go are as follows:
[color="Red"]News and Announcements[/color][/b]
Is it just me or do people post information of upcoming products in the Gaming Discussion forum more? I think this whole thing could go and no one would know the difference. Just consolidate some space and pack in all the news and info on your favorite games into one forum. Besides, people check the news on the front page.
[color="Red"]Ghost Recon 1[/color][/b] can go.
[color="Red"]Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter[/color][/b] can go.
Replace the "General Gaming" forum with a PC-dedicated and a Console-dedicated forum. And slap respected games in there.
I'm not touching the mod section, because I've never browsed there.
General discussion seems alright for now..
That's all I can think of.

I agree with some of what nfk suggests. Drop news down to PC, console, and maybe hardware. Change gaming section to reflect this change as well, where people can post reviews and discuss releases or demos once they've had a chance to check them out. Mod section can be broken down into 3 categories- resources, questions, and end results. The last section, general discussion, can be left as it is. It's quite possibly the most popular forum section and changing it now may result in mutiny or painful body waxing techniques.
