Why are Colt weapons never going to be used in Vegas?

I read on the official forums that UBI said they will never have any Colt weapons like the M16/M4, for reasons they will not discuss. What reason could they possible have to not include these?

Vegas is still a great game, but I was disappointed to not see the M4, or any variation in the arsenal.

Well, it's not for liability/intellectual property issues.. Colt brought Bushmaster to court over the use of the name 'M4', and they lost. M4 is a generic government name for a weapon, Colt doesn't own it.

Most of the reasons Colt gets boycotted is because they have one division for the government and one for the lowly civilians that manufactures 'sporting' versions of the AR-15. However, I doubt Ubisoft is a particularly pro-gun organisation...

It's my understanding that Colt would sue (and has sued) anyone who
uses their weapon designs (not the names) in their games with getting
permission/licensing of those designs.

I don't know how this sticks, though since the M-16 made by Colt is
exactly the same design as the M-16 made by Armalite.  As far as I know
the various variations of the original design by Gene Stoner are not owned
by the various manufacturers but by Gene Stoner.  But, Colt seems to
assert that they own the rights to their designs and use of of their
weapon designs without their permission is actionable.

I think it's the climate of the anti-gun nuts and their lawsuits against gun
manufacturers that have precipitated this nonsense.  It's probably Colt's
lawyers trying to head off lawsuits from people saying that their gun
designs were used in a violent game that inspired someone to go out
and commit a crime.  Lawsuits like this against the manufacturers are
complete BS and nothing more than the anti-gun crowd trying to shut
down the manufacturers by harassing them through the courts.

I think it's those very same lawsuits that prompted Colt to basically
back out of the individual consumer market for some of their weapons.
So, the anti-gun crowd won.  I just wish it was possible to use the courts
against the anti-gun crowd in the same fashion they use the courts
to harass the gun manufacturers.

Perhaps sue some those that brought the lawsuits for trying to block
us from exercising our 2nd amendment rights.
