Interesting article I stumbled across.  Shatters a bit of a myth and sheds some light...

The most giving nation? It's not us - The Globe & Mail.com

The "it's not us" refers to us Canucks btw.

From a sociological perspective, I wonder if the US's high religosity might partially explain the higher figure. I imagine that a great deal of charitable contributions are made to/through religious organizations.
n/m, now that full article is up, I see they covered that.

Also, I wonder what large private donations from super-weathy individuals do to the numbers. I'd guess that extreme outliers like these would definitely skew the numbers a bit in favor of our (US) society.

Intersting. If you don't mind posting the full article I'd like to read it. Thanks!

I dunno Mike but that definately is a good point.  It'd be intersting to see/get a general gist of how the numbers were generated.

But I was a little shocked at the Arkansas numbers...that definately was an eye opener that hones in on the general gist of the book methinks...just as the per capita Quebec numbers were an equal eye opener.

Weird...
When I first clicked the article it only gave me the first paragraph and asked me to subscribe. After I replied to your original post the link took me to a the full article. Now it's bringing me back to the subscription screen again...

Anyway. Yeah, the religious certainly have that charity thing cornered. The secular humanists need to get with the program. Cheesy
