Gotta love those religious hypocrits.

"Thou shalt not kill", you say?

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Religious broadcaster Pat Robertson  has suggested that American agents assassinate Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez to stop his country from becoming "a launching pad for communist infiltration and Muslim extremism."

An official of a theological watchdog group on Tuesday criticized Robertson's statement as "chilling."

"We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability," Robertson said Monday on the Christian Broadcast Network's "The 700 Club."

"We don't need another $200 billion war to get rid of one, you know, strong-arm dictator," he continued. "It's a whole lot easier to have some of the covert operatives do the job and then get it over with."

Heh heh.  Cheesy

EDIT IN:  I wonder how Bush justifies invading entire countries, with his bible. I guess we have a 'crusades 2005' in progress.

Oh my goodness, one Christian made an ignorant and asinine comment. That means they're all idiots!!!

MONO, think about it.. we could make thousands of threads about contradictory statements and actions by Atheists, Agnostics, Jews, Catholics, etc. etc.

Wow.   Okay, let's analyze the validity of your emotional response.

I didn't say "christians" anywhere.

Yes, exactly. That is why I said 'religious hypocrits', and not a specific religion.

And your last sentence almost validates my opinion.

Emotional. The only time I've been emotional posting on this forum was that one time I was really constepated. It was a real tear-jerker.

P.S.

I'm pretty sure "Praise the Lord and pass me the sniper rifle" isn't in referance to a Buddhist.

Gawd. Well if you want to get technical, I referenced "those religious hypocrits", not "all religious people".

So how many is that?
37?
59?
3,407?

I personally don't know how many religious people are hypocrits, I was only refering to Pat Robertson,  but you seem to think it's all of them......

It's not the first time Pat Robertson has said something that makes most normal people say, "WTF is up with this guy?". And since he is a public religious figure who reaches millions of people with his broadcasts (and has a sizable national following) I think it is right to be concerned, and speak out against, things like this.

Just my 2 cents.

Mmm...tend to agree with Mono on this one.

Pat Robertson isn't exactly you're average joe blow peep of faith.  He's a spiritual leader in his community as well as wielding political influence and finacial influence with the 700 club.

I found it shocking at first and then just down right comical when I read through the couple of articles floating around about his remarks.  As a Christian, what he's advocating on national television is the height of hypocrasy for the faith, even more so being in the leadership position he's in.

Another way to look at this as well is if Pat Robertson was a muslim, advocating the assination of a western leader on national television.

Pretty wingnut thing to come out and say and hopefully he's removed from his post for this nonesense.

Ooops.  Our bad ladies and gentlemen.  Pat Robertson's remarks have been mis-interpreted by us all and the media according to his comments today.

Sorry Pat   .

In all seriousness, I think public statements like that should carry some type of legal penalty, especially for a public figure like that.

In my experience, orgainized religion is one big hypocritical contradiction...

If this was a muslim leader that was publicaly, on national television, advocating the asassination of a country's leader, what do you think the response would be?

Correction, correction.  We didn't mis-interpret what he said.  Now Pat Robertson has now appoligized for saying what he did.  I guess that makes it all better now  :hmm: .

Depends on what year it was and who the President was and what country it was in.  If it was the Clinton era, he would be welcomed into the White House with open arms...  If it was the Bush era, we probably would have had him taken out and had a good talking to...  If it was in Britain, he would have had a good talking to and then deported...

What is your point???

By definition, a religious leader HAS to be a hypocrite.. How else could they follow the Bible???

Don't drag your argument from the other into here and throw it at me.

They are unrelated.

I'm a Republican. I voted for Bush. I voted for his father. I'd do it again. I support pre-emptive military acts to protect my childrens future or the security of their nation.

This comment is strictly about religion, which I despise.

Keep the two seperate.

See...you are purposely following Smerg into here to continue an argument that started in, and belongs in, the other thread.

Maybe you should take 5. It's one thing to voice a different opinion, it's another to do it in a fashion that clearly illicits an antagonistic response.

Stop looking for a fight.

Yes, in religious context. You clearly commented with a different agenda spilling over from the other thread. Does your response in any way answer my question about the biblical aspect?

Just to be clear, I do not feel challenged by you in any way whatsoever.
