very very interesting conversation.  I'm impressed at how well everyone is staying politically correct while stating their views, and i want to congradulate everyone here on that.

Personally, I believe in god, and i believe that god IS a very personal diety.  A few years ago, i went through a rather rough portion of my life, and i have a close friend who (i believe) was sent by god to help me through that time.  i can talk to her about anything and everything, and she helped bolster my self-belief when it seemed to completely crumble around me.  its hard to explain, but for me looking back, it is definative proof that while i understand little of him or his mechanisms, he's there and hes watching over me.

Personally, I think the question should be, "Who's god do you believe in?"

I think that the Pope's god is different than Atta's god, a Jews god is different that a Palistinian's god, Bush's god is different than bin laudin's god.

Everyone's god is different but there's only supposed to be one god.  What's up with that.  A suicide bomber may be psychopathic but that doesn't deminish his belief in his god.

I want to go on but I need coffee to continue.  maybe I'll pick this up later where I left off.

Yeah, it's too bad every religion can't take a page from the Unitarian Universalist play book. It sure would end a lot of bloodshed and oppression worldwide.

Ever been to a UU service Mike? I went for Easter a few years back. I really liked it but my wife who was raised (very) Catholic couldn't stand it unfortunately. It was too "hokey" for her.

Yep! A freind of mine is a UU. He's been telling me I should "join" and I've gone to a few services with him. I've seriously considered joining a few times but I don't think I'm totally sold on branding myself with any religious affiliation yet (even one as cool as UU).

I didn't think it was hokey though, it was a lot more genuine then any service I went to while being raised a Catholic.

Great tpoic and answers.. I go for the "i`m no believer and think most religions are more about power over people" trend but if people want to believe then it`s up to them.
I`d type more because i do realy have forthright views on riligion but it`s all been said and better then i could say it..

Thanx for the great topic though
