Ok...I know that hat usage is still happening with a certain crowd, but really...compared to even the late 1800s nobody wears a, lets say, fedora, as a standard piece of clothing.

There was a time when neither a man, nor a woman would be caught without their hat.

Given that the general use, historically speaking -that is, of hat wearing was to protect from the sun, why have we been molded, over some period of time, into NOT wearing a hat?  Why would we suddenly unlearn a most vital fact, which we obviously knew before?

Who was responsible for this change?  Anybody ever consider it?

Just wondering. Cheers

In the 1800s being pale meant you didn't work, i.e. you were rich.
Nowadays you're supposed to be tanned so you look like rich people in magazines with glossy pages.

I wear a hat everywhere I go. It's one of my essential accessories. I use my hat to contain everything I carry in my pockets during the day when I go to bed at night. And after my shower, I put everything in my pockets except my comb, which I use to comb my hair, then pocket it, then put my hat on. However, where I now work I'm not allowed to wear my hat all day. Although, if I had a fedora, I might be able to get away with it. I want a fedora too, like the 20's mobsters wore. Or the 30's news reporters. Whichever.

I wear a hat quite a bit. All day at work and when I'm too lazy to do anything with my hair.

not a fan of hats, honestly.  if i'm outside, i'm doing something athletic and hats have a bad tendency to get in the way (ever tried heading a soccer ball with a hat on?) and make my brow excessively sweaty.  plus i always felt like baseball caps made me look like dumbo.

A ball cap is not a hat, Josh, That's why it's called a cap.

Hats don't make you go bald:

Quote
Hats cause baldness.

A hat — tight or otherwise — doesn't cause hair to go the way of the dodo; hair thinning and hair loss are simply natural parts of the aging process. The mistaken belief hat wearing brings about this condition (we found mention of this belief in a book published in 1929) began during an era when hat-wearing was the rage for men, and people mistakenly concluded one caused the other. The contradictory evidence that plenty of hat-wearing men retained full heads of hair well into advanced age was, of course, ignored.

Source: Snopes

Baldness is genetic and/or age-specific, and often aided by habits such as over-brushing or combing. Length of hair typically contributes to thinning due to split ends. Etc...

Wear hats and worry not.

Hats began to fall out of fashion back in-and-around 1947. Interestingly enough, an Extraterrestrial space craft crashed in Roswell New Mexico July 7th that same year. Coincidence? I THINK NOT! The government wants us to believe that hats are as fashionable as ever, but we all know the truth. The real question is this: Did the Roswell Aliens, who clearly did not wear hats, utilize their advanced technology to manipulate the human race's love of head-wear? Or was it our re-evolution to a hatless society that caught the attention of our intergalactic friends in the first place? The answer is out there.

I hope you have a sense of humour...  Cheers

hahahahahahahah Baja...

what's really cool about it is that my older son needed to do a short story for his English class, and we were going to make up a wild story, I mean tell the truth about Roswell like you did.  It was the gradual decline of hat usage, not the detonation of the A-bomb that brought their inquisitive little hive minds to our blue world.

The truth is up there. Cheers

Nononono, you've got it all wrong. The government, with the aliens' help, made us stop wearing hats so that their mind-control machines would work better.
