Sorry it didn't go the way you hoped ... 9 miles is still way more than most people will ever run. Keep it up and you'll nail it next time.

Probably more than I've ran in 26 years...

However, I too am sorry to hear that, buddy.

Okay, feeling slightly better, time for an update.
Don't know how many of you are familiar with the Iliotibial ("I.T.") band, but it's a tendon that runs under your quads down past the outside of your knee. As it turns out, occasionally, it actually rubs up against your kneecap if you put too much stress on your quads (by lifting too much or, more importantly, by running on them when they're too fatigued).  Also, as a tendon, once its injured, it doesn't tend to heal very quickly, and it may never heal completely.
Okay, so a couple years ago, I overloaded my leg skiing and wreaked havok on my IT band.  Ever since then, I've been walking a tight rope, knowing that pushing myself even one mile too far can reinjure it.  Not surprisingly, about a month ago, I was scheduled to do a 20 mile long training run when, while running down the camber of a ditch, it just went.  Poof.  Gone.  I backed way off, and only ran one other time between then and saturday.  But as I'm working in landscaping this summer, I just didn't have the time to heal it enough, and I knew it even before the gun went off.  I was pain free for the first 3 and a half miles, but it deteriorated pretty quickly after that.  By mile 9, I decided that 17 more miles of excruciating pain wasn't going to be worth the finishers medal.
So...at some point this week, I'm going to visit a sports physician (something I should have done two years ago) and try to get myself actually patched up and healed more completely.  I'm sick of having it blow up every six months.

I know that tendon very well....blew mine in my left knee when I was trying to squat 750 lbs...no I didn't get it up...

I'm sorry to hear that Josh...get some rehab! Definitely not something you want to screw with!

Speaking of, I landed a job at a scrapyard. Always wanted to. Kinda nice being able to take a cutting torch to cars & trucks and whatever else gets in my way, the only concern being I cut it into small enough pieces to fit into the sorted box. Cheesy

P.S. If ya have a truck, old refridgerators are bringing about $100 a pop around here. (looking into gettiing this old 51' Chevy 1 ton dump truck for doing just that Wink )

I have a 1950 Ford F-68 sitting in my garage. I hate Ford, and it's not mine, but it's still in the garage.

The new Alice in Chains single is out today, "A Looking in View" - I think it's pretty good.

I posted more in the new album thread over in the Music/Musicians forum.

I'm not a huge truck fan, but the guy that owns the body shop next to my work has like a 1980 or so GMC truck (that he's restored) and it is one beautiful truck. Painted midnight blue. Absolutely gorgeous.
