First snow hike of the season (pics)

I've been busy with school related stuff, so I haven't been able to hike much (or upload pictures from what few hikes I've taken in the past three months), but I mangaed to get out to New Hampshire for a bit yesterday to do a couple of small hikes, Square Ledge and Crystal Cascade. I was hoping to see some snow, unsure of how much would be in the lower elevations at this time of year. I was pleasantly suprised, snow all over, from 1 inch to nearly 1 foot in places.

Square Ledge is a gigantic cube shaped rock formation that has a really fun trail up the side (crazy steep at the end). Great views from the top of the ledge too.



Crystal Cascade is a small set of waterfalls just up the Tuckerman Ravine trail across the street:

This is about the time of year the mountains start getting hit. We'll start getting it in a few more weeks.
It's kind of cool riding up to the area. The ground will be completely bare and then within the space of a few miles it's powder everywhere. Instant winter.

I'm just being a smart-ass. Usually Toronto gets it's first snowfall the second or third week of November but it isn't totally unusual to get it as late as the last week of December.

when Toronto gets snow they have to close the city down and call the Armed Forces to come dig them out 

we got a dusting of snow yesterday but it was warm today and melted it all.

I have never in my life seen light snow. This is partially because I'm from Southern California and well, it doesn't snow when you've never lived more than seven miles from the ocean.

I've seen a "dusting" during a trip to Nevada where it melted by morning.

I've also been to New Hampshire during a blizzard. I distinctly remember it being so cold when I opened my mouth to take a deep breath it burned my throat. I also remember stepping off a porch into a good four feet of snow.

I'd like to see pretty snow sometime.

TSE if you want to see pretty snow, you have to visist Banff or even Canmore, Alberta. i used to live in Canmore and in winter it is the most beautiful place. i think i have pictures of some of the views from my place after it had snowed. i'll have to dig them up and post them.

I just want this weird ass weather to end and give me a good fall and a cold ass winter with snow....but being in Memphis, where the high can go from 30 degrees Fahrenheit to 71 in the same day....I don't see that happening.

Seriously, those days aren't fun.  I've had ski meets in -10 F.  I couldn't talk for about 3 days afterwards.
