So, what do you all think about musicians who's motives are political?
Personally, now'a days, I couldn't care less. Seems that most musicians/bands/groups with a political element in their songwriting kind of suck. The politics takes away from the music. Back in the day (the day before my day) Political music wasn't too bad: IE: Bob Dylan, Buffalo Springfield, etc.

Eh, it depends on what they are trying to say, in most cases I don't mind.
System has a sort of political element to them, and I love em.

I never liked System. Cant stand them.
And music, traditionally, is an art. Art should be intended to move you emotionally, not intended to change your vote.

So, what do you all think about musicians who's motives are political? Personally, it depends on the message and the motivation(s) of the musician. One thing is certain, the emotional aspect of music makes it a powerful medium for delivering a message. That can be good and bad. ~Mike

Rage Against The Machine rocks in my book but personally i don't care what they are saying as long as it sounds good.

agreed with fishy's double standard/hypocracy statement. i take way too much enjoyment out of analyzing the meanings of lyrics, so political songs are interesting, but most of the best actually discuss social and/or philosophical issues rather than political ones (think Pink Floyd and Chili Peppers lyrics). BTW, does anyone else think Muse's new album "Black Holes and Revelations" could be construed as a concept album? I mean, every single song on there can be interpereted as a war protest song in some way, and if you really want, there's even almost a storyline to it.
