Well, their first single has been released (for a few days). What do you guys think about it? http://www.metallica.com/index.asp?item=601119I have mixed feelings. You can hear some "...And Justice for All" and "Kill'em All" peaking through, but there's still some "I'm a sobered up pussy" in there. I honestly just think they're getting old and losing touch with their roots. That's not a bad thing, evolution is the only way not to die, it just simply isn't as appealing to me as their older stuff. Thoughts? Comments? |

I was so stoked about it. I heard it Wednesday or Thursday... and up until that point, mission: Metallica was on. Heard it, gave it a fair shake and was severely disappointed. They tried to mix ...And Justice for All/Ride the Lightning with St. Anger... The guitar tone was way too processed, guitar playing on the leads a bit sloppy, the drumming was sub-par, and James Hetfield was singling like a whiny little bitch.
Mission: Metallica is called off for me and my friends... we were going to see them Dec 1st in Seattle.

I like the first half a pretty decent amount, but after about halfway it gets kinda lame. The love is a four letter word and stuff along with the this I swear was kinda annoying and the solos don't sound pleasing at all to me.
... just ignore me if I sound like an idiot...

It sounds very very "clean". infact too processed. Im wondering if listening to it on vinyl would improve the sound?

The more I listen to it, the more I like it.
Believe me, I don't blame anyone for not liking it. But just like the first time I listened to 'Until it Sleeps' and wanted to puke, this song is definitely growing on me. It sounds more like Metallica than St. Anger did. At around 4:06, that -heavy- melody (which is what Metallica is, and what they've been lacking) is really kick ass.
I still have to buy it. And I literally mean purchase, not illegally obtaining, because it's Metallica and I have to still support them even if just for what they've done in the past. Rumor has it that 'The Day That Never Comes' is the most "mellow" song on the album, so I have to give them a chance.

I'm surprised no one has commented on this album. It's kick ass. Honestly. Metallica fans have been waiting for this album since 1991. Get it, it's effing amazing. I know some of you disliked the "processed" sound to the guitar in "The Day That Never Comes", but even that I like now. The first track off the album "That Was Just Your Life" sounds like a song they recorded in 1985 but they just couldn't fit it on Master of Puppets. They're back. <3 EDIT--- What's funny, too, is that a lot of people are saying it's the best album since the Black Album (and it is), but the Black Album is where they "Sold Out". Funny how opinions change with a few less than liked albums in nearly two decades.  |
