I only heard about it when Dave Grohl was on BBC Radio 1 the friday before Live Earth.

The "Ballad of the Beaconsfield Miners" is a dedication to some Australian miners who got caught in a cave in. Their rescuers made a little communication hole and asked if they wanted anything.

"Some water and a Ipod with Foo Fighters on it would be nice" came the reply.

The band heard about this and told them that they could get free tickets the next time they where in Aus'. They later met up with the miners after a gig in Melbourne (I think).

I just picked this up and it's on my player all the time. I only "kinda liked" Foo Fighters before and didn't pay them much mind because I hated Nirvana (still do). However... they've really become their own entity and I really like their stuff. I've become a big fan. "Pretender" is thus far my favorite track on this album, but I'm giving the Miner track a listen right now.

I have it, its not as strong as some of the previous albums, but there is more consistency throughout.

What really made my balls boil was that i was "unable"(aka sold out) to buy tickets to see them on tour (in london) half an hour the tickets went on sale! grrrrrrrrr!

You have to see them live!

I've never even considered Foo to be close to Nirvana. Maybe because I wasn't a huge Nirvana fan and didn't listen to them much.
