I created a map with the editor that came with RVS. Nothing special, more of a trial to see if I could even do it. But I have 2 issues I can't fix and something tells me they are related.

#1 I installed it on another pc, which it will play fine, but one pc cannot join another, it hangs on "waiting for server response", I sent it to a friend and he can't get past that point to even play it. The first pc did dl some files from joining mine before I created an install program, maybe this is why it will play it? I did include all files in the install program.

#2 I don't have a sound file, cannot save one, nothing appears when I try and save it. I have noticed some maps don't have one, some maps have an SBO as well as an UAX. Not sure if I even need one, if they are in the RSM file.

Has anyone ever run into this or can anyone help me, please?
If I can get past this, I would like to start creating new maps for RVS. This old game should never die.

the sound files you dont need unless you are making custom sounds. those like anything else in unreal need to refrence a package, that you would make if you had  made custom sounds.  For your first map I wouldnt worry about sound.  The ini file and int files is prob where you and your friend are hanggin,   have a look at the text of the ini files of parade as well as the int.. mostly you can copy paste, while editing the lines that link to your map and stuff. If you need help with these I will try to dig up all the old info for you.. most of the old mappers have moved on, but im happy to help  as much as I can.

Thank you for your help. I will have a look at those. Anything you can dig up would be appreciated. And who knows, I may clean up this map alittle (minor lighting adjustments, etc.), add more gameplay modes (T-hunt only right now), and get it out there to be played.

OK, here's what I got. If you ever read Beckett's tutorials, you'll see the beginnings of it in my map. Kudos to him for getting me started. I know it needs some lighting tweaks and other stuff, but this is a rough draft.

Nope, the prog I used for setting up the int file added that itself. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems the int file isn't exactly necessary for a map to be played, when you join a server and dl a map, you don't get the int file anyway. True?  I tried the copy and paste thing with the ini several times and several different ways b4 and after posting here, still to no avail. Driving me nuts why this won't work, by all rights it should. I'm about ready to scrap this one and start new, try it again from scratch.

scraping is only a good idea if you are done with it.  Never let a problem get in your way, part of being a Level designer is to figure out whats going wrong, and how to fix it.

Well, when would you call it quits? I've been at this point since January, if not b4. Does kinda get old. So far noone has come up with anything as to why it won't work. Have you guys even been able to open it in editor, or play it or anything?

You guys stumped too? I think theres some sort of file missing, but not sure what. I did add some sounds from other maps, not sure if they are stock sounds or not. I should probably look at that. Have any of you got it to load at all?

When adding sounds you can only use one package per map.

I think you misunderstood me. I don't have a sound file at all. But when I made the map, I added some sounds which I wasn't sure if they were custom or not. I doubt they are.
       This is new:
When I open my map with the editor, I get null references to some textures and meshes, these I am positive are not even in my map, they are from the Nuclear package, and I DID use afew meshes and textures from that. It says if I save it, they will be rendered null, how do I get rid of them?

cant even open the map

if you do a build all without saving it will give you an error log in the ed
x2 click on each error and delete for a SM
for the null texture select it in error box x2 click it it will select that null texture, then press Shift+T this will select all matching textures then just pick a texture in browser

rebuild all and all shold be good

I think I figured out the problem, it's with the static mesh package. I had trouble getting it to save to begin with. And now I can't get it to save a new one. When I open the mesh browser, there are only 2 listed. This is strange. If I rebuild the map, I lose static meshes in the dynamic light window. They are still there in the other windows, but visually disappear. I attached a screenshot of when I first open my map, and the warning window I get, which I can't do anything with, other than close. Also, when I rebuild, I don't get a null brush error, it seems to rebuild fine.

Guys, I really appreciate all the feedback, hope I'm not being a pain. TY

Generally I only get the disappearing meshes because of two things:

1. I just rebuild the lighting and not rebuild all
2. I created the map without snap to grid on and there is a bsp hole somewhere

LOOKING AT THE SCREENSHOT you are missing the nuclear_SM folder, textures and models

have you removed some maps?
or when u closed the ed or saved a sm/texture folder u overwrite the old Nuclear packages

I did remove some things, I may have deleted that map by accident. This may be a big problem because now I don't know which map I got them from. I'll have to do some digging.

If you used a mesh from another package, you and anyone that plays this map must have the whole package of meshes it came from. If you have all your meshes in all one package, you may have forgot to include one. As for the disapearing meshes, I have had this problem for some meshes I tried to make from brushes but this was too long ago for me to remember what the problem was. I think I just left them as BSP.

I am no mapping expert but I have some experience and will be willing to help anyone with problems.

OK, here we go. I got back the static mesh file for Nuclear which I was missing. How do I create a static mesh package for my map which would include all the static meshes I used? Right now if I load the package there is only 2 things in it, which there should be about 15.
