a coworker/friend and i have been going back and forth about what he wants to do about a gaming rig. well today he finally decided on a number... and i went shopping:

click this

let me know of any incompatibilities or anything you'd exchange for better(while keeping a budget in mind). he gave me a 2k budget to work with to deliver him a COMPLETE rig with a decent monitor, shipping and taxes in that budget too. i'm giving him the proposal tomorrow around 5pm pst so make changes by about 4 so i can prepare it.

thanks for looking.

ps: sli is not necessary right now, this guy isn't a tweak guru so stock numbers and default settings will have to do for now but keeping upgradability(SP) in the future is a must.

come november 5th (i belive it may be setback to november 16th) ati and nvidia will haave some new video cards out.  you may want to get one of those instead.

the next am2/am2+ boards are comming out november 20th i belive (somewhere around there).

here is a review of the 50$ power supplies, it may help you decide a good power supply.

if your friend is anything of a novice or wants a reliable nag free system i would recomend against vista (also check vista compaitiblity with the motherboard manufacture. asus.com.tw should be the site if im not mistaken (i could be).

as for a thermal solution, no need for watercooling these days. the only things needing watercooling would be hot intel chips and grfx cards.

i would guess most cpu coolers would work fine. www.overclockers.com  has the best resource for cpu coolers!
i think it was the scythe ninja that did really well?

If he's not savvy I would've just said "buy a Dell XPS" and left it at that.

Also, that puter was expensive. Yeesh.
