I'm thinking about buying this.

Just wanting some of you tech smarties to look over the specs and tell me what you think. Good unit? Any shortcomings? Is there something better for the money?

I'm looking for something BIG.

Thanks.

i'm no techie when it comes to hardware but from personal experiance and what i DO know, Dell puts out a good lcd. all the numbers i see in that spec chart look good too. plus the price seems right on target for other monitors of the same size and spec. the reviews seem pretty good on that page so all in all i think it would be a good buy.

if i recall you have a problem with your monitor now(gamma/contreast/brightness) and this will be a definate upgrade correct?

Yep.

I always wanted a really big monitor. I actually was looking around at large HDTVs just to hook up to my vid card for gaming, then I accidently stumbled across this monitor this morning in some pop up ad. I think I'm definately going to buy it.

Expensive, but Dell does make some of the best rated LCD's. We use a ton of them in the office (19") and they're great. I still use CRT's but that's more because they still work instead of a preference.

That Dell doesn't have a good response time- 8ms would be my personal max. That's what plagued the first gen LCD monitors- such a bad response time that refresh rates (fps) suffered. Not to mention that thing doesn't have HDMI?

Vizio (www.vizioce.com) puts out a 32" TV/monitor for around $1000 but you can pick one up for just under $900 in some stores. It has an 8ms response time, 1366x768 native resolution, and includes all the inputs you need for various components. If you can get all that for under $1000, why would you pay $800 for something smaller, slower, and less equipped?

The larger Dells use LG panels and the smaller (19" and down) use Samsung panels for their LCD's. the 2405FPW originally was false advertised as 8ms when it was really 12ms but i believe they fixed that with a new revision. Judging from the specs, the Acer uses the same panel as the Dell, except that it's rated at 6ms (a strong possibility that it's a gray-to-gray rating...not a black-to-white which will be slightly slower...say...8ms).

Other Thoughts: I just spoke with a customer service representivie regarding a refund on my purchase. Although the LCD renders 3-D amazingly, the input lag on the mouse (which is an issue many people are complainging about in quite a few other forums) is unnacceptable for fast FPS's. I had informed NewEgg that I had spoken with Acer support and one of their reps said there is no fix for the input lag for this LCD. Why this was not advertised is beyond me. They still want to hit me with a 15% restocking fee which means I just wasted One hundred forty dollars in the long run. That is horrible customer service for a first time buyer. I understand paying shipping, but the 15% for an un-fixable issue with this LCD... Simply put, avoid buying any type of large screen LCD if you do any type of FPS gaming. Look for this review on my experience with Newegg and this LCD on one of the dozens of technical websites I frequent. Thanks.

i wouldn't  buy any those big ass lcd's, if it were me

I just bought the 2001FP which is a 20.1 inch LCD and it goes with my new AMD 3500+, which lays on the ECS RX480-A mobo along with the Ati X1600 to boot!

Thanks, but I forgot to add that DELL has a dead pixel policy of I think 7-9 so if you see 7-9 dead pixels they will RMA it but if you have 3 to 4 then you're stuck. The best dead pixel policy is offered by Gateway which is only 1 dead pixel.

I love this monitor and dell makes some great stuff, just wish they would direct it towards thier machines.
