lol, vista is such a pain. its not getting better. the hardware issues, the interface issues the whole thing with driver support issues. hey mabe one system you created works better on vista - try telling that to everyone else.
drm issues, speed issues, games are slow on vista.
sofar all the games that were released using dx10 can be played on directx9 without issues its not a rumour. and "next gen" lol, thats such a Microsoft ad campain its so funny. do you know the differnce between dx9 and 10? its not going to make things "next gen" game dev's are not even making huge differnces. so what if there are titles lined up for dx10, its not going to make them unavailable on dx9 regardless! vista is such a poor os, its funny that anyone would use it and be satisfied.
i know they are working on it, but when sp1 comes out its a big peice of ....
they delayed it even longer too.
MS is making changes in its os to accomidate better performance from vid cards and in doing so its going to make dx10 even more possible on xp, so not only do we have dx10 games playable on xp, but we have a 3rd party software compainy making a wrapper for it, and MS themselfs are going to make it easier to do the same thing, play dx10 on winXP. rumurs? well, not really, i already know from ATI in spacific that they are working with MS on issues regarding dx10, i have tested the 3rd party software wrapper with spacific dx10 codepaths on winXP, and i have played the games that are suppose to be dx10 vista only on a windows XP machine. rumur? i belive not.
when vista is stable and customizable
http://www.vlite.net/ and im able to do what many people need and want - then i will use vista, thats over 1 year away. when i buy a new computer with "next gen" parts which wont be for a while (cause next gen isnt here yet - until they make software that utilizes 4 cores and physics etc) i will likly upgrade. forget the perfromance hit and annoyance that vista gives me now - (i use vista all the time, i repair computers for a living).
http://www.ubuntu.com/ try out linux - try out the compiz fusion that is the 3d grfical interface... try playing games from linux - its pritty sweet! tho not all games will work, most can be played some way or annother and its only getting better. im not much of an ubuntu guy, or a gamer on linux either, but its still better than vista.
EDIT: update - directx10.1 info... here is link to the sdk.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=529f03be-1339-48c4-bd5a-8506e5acf571&DisplayLang=en&displaylang=en +Shader Model 4.1.
-dynamically selective sample pattern for MSAA
-better resource handling and TextureCube Arrays
XAudio 2 is going to replace DirectSound for 5.1 sound, since vista couldnt do surround sound well. this will also be able to make cross-platform development possible.
Along with support for multi-core processors. when a CPU with many cores some of the cores will do audio processing.
