Hey guys. I don't know how many of you actually run your own websites on a commercial server, but the company I work for has been actively seeking a new host due to the fact that several past web design guys (and girls) scattered our customer sites across several web hosts, causing some serious issues with maintenance. At least 2 of these guys did so for their own profit.

Anyway, I've been tasked with finding our new host. We currently use GoDaddy, Pair, Claima, SRLnet, and a few others.

Here's what we need in a web host/ domain registrar:

Minimum 50GB space, Minimum 200GB bandwidth
Unlimited multiple/sub domains, FTP accounts, e-mail accounts (IMAP & POP3)
MySQL, Perl, CGI, PHP, SSI, SSH, Frontpage Extensions, Javascript
Streaming media would be nice but not necessary

If we can get a package like this for less than $20/mo with domain registration/renewal for less than $20/yr, dedicated IP, and at least 200MB per mailbox, that'd be great. My boss wants something relatively local, IE east coast in the Philly or NYC area (although Boston to Charlotte and as far west as Detroit should be fine), that'd be even better.

Any suggestions? Provide links if possible so I can check out the pricing and packages. At some point we may go with fiber-optic and run servers in-house for hosting, but in the meantime I'd like to find a cost-effective alternative.

www.webhostingtalk.com is the best place to start especially if your doing this for a buisness!

then look into getting a dedicated or VPS solution because you are garanteed resources that way. then find someone with support thats reliable a majority of the time (good support is NOT 100% of the time and things happen).

20$ for 200gb of bandwidth is not that hard to do but its not something a buisness would want to do.  a vps and or dedicated server is going to start somewhere in the 60$ range - its not that you cant find a 20$ server, cause they are out there... its just you wouldnt want to put a buisness on one.

i have some links in my fav's for some cheap vps servers i will post them once i hit the edit button.

http://www.hostican.com/contactus/thankyou.php
hostican has unmetered traffic/bandwidth for there shared host but i would recomend a vps solution for buisnesses.

http://www.rosehosting.com/virtserv-spec.html
has vps solutions starting around 20$ but dont have the disk space your looking for.

for the best servers i have ever used https://www.liquidweb.com/cart/content/vps/
they dont have the space you want either.

hrm... here is a favorite of myne...  http://web-hosting.domaintools.com/r/vps-hosting
you can choose from a list of servers with some specs. they are all priced pritty nicly (cheap).

anyways, check out www.webhostingtalk.com and you can find the solution whether it be shared/vps/ or dedicated to meet your need for your buisness.

keep in mind that 20$ isnt going to buy you exactly what you want - cause something will be sacraficed - ie shared servers are shared and are slower especially if your using 200GB of traffic cause the server has many users on them, and they are usually overpopulated with to many users (reseller accounts are even worse, much worse! they offer more but dont do it).  vps dedicates a portion of the server for you. you have a dedicated percentage of CPU, and you get a dedicated amount of memory (depending on the plan you have). dedicated server is a PC all for you, it can be managed or non-managed (managed they take care of managing it, lol, unmanaged means you do your own installs, upgrades and etc - usually have to know linux).

have fun!

went one more step and created a thread for you.
http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?p=4618148#post4618148
hope it helps.

hrm... i didnt know your buisness really wasnt a normal buisness in the respect i was thinking.  thats why i suggested a vps.  i see what your looking for now.

you will probably want a reliable reseller hosting - that is if you have each customer with there own domain name. otherwise you can get a shared account and setup subdomains for each customer (which would be like client_name.buisness_name.com)

in anycase, this is hard to find too because of overselling but - since you dont have huge customer bandwidth/traffic, it narrows it down to using someone thats respectable and offers great uptime and support.

hostIcan has a good shared server but doesnt have the reseller features. the reseller feature doesnt have the 50gb you want (only 30gb).

http://www.superbhosting.net/webhosting/
has some cheap prices for shared hosting.

http://www.bluehost.com/
not bad prices.

http://hostgator.com/resellers.shtml
everything you could want but ~100$ a month for reseller package.

again run all these through webhostingtalk search to checkup on how good or bad they might be. remember that people are looking to take the one experiance into such a huge thing, remember that sh*t happens and one remark isnt going to be a huge problem and its likly just the users fault but doesnt understand why.

MO, just to give you an idea of what we need- the GoDaddy.com deluxe Linux plan covers everything we need EXCEPT it is limited to 6 FTP users and 10MB e-mail space. Also, the email users is limited to 1,000. We have nowhere near that many, but it's possible that we could at some point. We could always upgrade to the premium plan if needed, but if you look at that one, it still only has 6 FTP users and 10MB of email space. I'd like to find something like that, where you can have unlimited multiple/sub domains, unlimited e-mail accounts, the mail space is a portion of the total disk space allocation for the plan, and the FTP users are unlimited. I think limiting the FTP users is ridiculous. It's probably their way of preventing piracy accounts or whatever, but if they need a legitimate business license or tax ID number then any business can provide one of those.

Anyway, hope that helps. Here's the link to the GoDaddy plan comparison, just so you know what I'm looking for. And my budget max is $50/month.

i forgot that godaddy offers all that space and bandwidth.  tho it has been noted godaddy isnt that great in many area's other than that.

since godaddy is such a large place that will always make money on domains, they can offer such a huge stash of bandwidth and space... i would call them directly and talk to them about making an account with email additions for what you need.

but im afraid your out of luck other than that.  good luck on finding something... a vps is probably your only bet for about 50$ a month with those specs.

there was one place that i dont have the link too... they offererd a great vps but there is a 3 month waiting period and since its like that it offers great plan's for cheap!  mabe i will try and look it up at work.

I doubt we'll ever use a full 50GB of space, but space is relatively cheap these days. I figured 50 was on the low end of most packages, since most places offer a considerable chunk. But I think our current situation would suffice on roughly 10GB. So perhaps 20GB to start with would be a better aim, especially in that price range. Also, our current bandwidth useage isn't anywhere near 200GB per month, even with alkl of the sites combined. I could maybe get away with a host offering 100 instead. Possibly even 50, but that'd be pushing it since overage is usually VERY expensive. We had to pay $100 plus for over disk useage, for less than 500MB of overage. So I defintely need something scaleable.

Keep looking. I'll have to check those other forums and see if they have anything we can use.

if thats the case... mabe check out http://www.hostican.com/hosting/index.php
they have a multitude of plans and they seem to be good for now. they have reseller accounts so i belive you can use the WHM to make a domain for each of your clients.

other than that check out the rest of those links and webhostingtalk for more.

Surpass doesn't list any details? The wiki area is far too jumbled and nobody should have to click more than 3 times to get a full list of all features. That's just a little too messy for me.

http://timehost.com/http://www.pwrhost.com/
http://www.innohosting.com/
http://www.slicehost.com/
this is the best option with a few drawbacks, you could be waiting 6weeks for a server, if you pay in advanced for the year or two years, you get 10% discount and you get your server faster.
you will be able to upgrade to a larger account when u need it (but im unsure how this works with the wait they have - shooting them an email would help).

site5 you have to pay yearly for those nice prices... the shared servers only have 50 connections per acc - so its not really great for alot of traffic all at once (ie if you get a digg hit). the reseller servers i belive are oversold.

surpasshosting http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=620179&highlight=surpasshosting.com read that. i know the server hardware is better than most because they use amd64 chips and they are much better than the pentium4 based xeons etc.

i didnt read about this one... http://www.netpreneurhost.com/
looks like alot of space and datatransfer at really cheap prices!

http://uberhost.net/plans.php has semi-dedicated server for 50$ with alot of nice features more-so than most!
