Wilson_ was just given a computer with everything except a hard drive. his motherboard supports SATA so he wants to go that route to take advantage of the speed. he baught this hard drive from newegg and needs to know more about installing a SATA hdd.

does he need a special power supply connector?

are there drivers that need to be installed to use the SATA connection?

what do i need to know about first time installing a SATA.

Depends on the power supply in the case.  If it supports SATA then it's good to go.  If not, you can get adapters:

Power supply connectors:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Description=sata+power+adapter

As far as drivers, the mobo CD will have the necessary drivers to install if XP/Vista doesn't install the drivers on the install.

ya, i had to make a floppy disk for friends cause they couldnt install xp on that hdd cause it wasnt recognized natively.  so if the drivers are not on the disk collect them from the net, copy them to floppy disk (what people dont use floppys anymore?) and press F6 when installing xp and load the drivers from the disk when it asks for them.

you can also make a windows xp disk with these drivers, there are many ways to do this, but check out nLite its the easiest method of doing it. http://www.nliteos.com/  this method allows you to do this without needed a floppy disk and you can add many drivers so you dont need to isntall them afterwords. (including adding security updates for windows etc).
