Nice setup you got there, looks like a good gaming area to relax and frag out in. I had that same chair to! I miss it because that chair had a awesome lumbar suppot back.

What am I playing on now?

AMD Athlon XP 2800+
Asus A7N8X Deluxe mobo
1 Gig of Mushkin Blue line DDR3200
EVGA 6800 GT
Creative Audigy 2
2x's Maxtor 100GB SATA drive (Raid 0)
Maxtor 250GB IDE drive
Mutant Mods Reactor 450w power supply
LG CD R/RW/DVD combo drive
RICOH CD R/RW drive
Lan Li Case (blue) with acrylic side panel, 5 case fans (Blue LED)

What am I about to build?  Before Christmas, I have on tap...

Asus Crosshair nforce 590 AM2 mobo
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+
2 Gigs Corsair XMS2 TWIN2X PC6400
2x's EVGA 7900 GS KO (to be run in SLI)
2x's Maxtor 320GB SATA II (to be run in Raid 0+1)
Ultra Infinity 600w power supply
NEC 16x DVD R/RW drive
Liteon CD R/RW DVD combo drive
Raidmax X1 ATX gaming tower

My old system is being passed on to my wife.  Staying with the new rig is the Acer 19" Wide monitor I picked up last month.  My current Microsoft Natural media keyboard and Microsoft Mouse will be upgraded in the new year.

Believe it or not, that rig I just laid out that I'm set to buy (soon isn't soon enough, just waiting for ye olde bonus to show up and time to go shopping), is going to run me $2580 up front with $100 in rebates kicked back to me in 8-10 weeks after purchase.

The pretty sick part of all this IMHO is that I priced out a similiar tower, but slot 939 processor and mobo at the beginning of the summer for pretty close to $3500 and no rebates.

**EDIT ADD-ON**

Ugh, you know what, MO is going to probably hate me but after doing much searching of reviews, it's pretty evident that the Empire has struck back.  There's simply no denying the reviews out there.  I've also been reading through the new Nvidia DX10 cards that have come out and what's been said about them.  It's sickening the gigantic range of test numbers I've seen.  When you can run games at completely max'ed out settings @ max. resolution of 2560 x 1600 and average better than 55fps on a single card, well this gamer had to reconsider his purchase while I await the chunk of change to make it all happen.

Please see below a revised list of what my new baby will be comprised of...and it comes in at a paltry 100 clams more than I had priced out!  These are truly happy times to be a PC gamer...

Antec Sonata II Black case
EVGA Nforce 680I SLI Motherboard
Corsair Dominator 2X2048 6400C4D DDR2
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Dual Core Processor
EVGA E-GEFORCE 8800 Gts
Seagate Barracuda 320GB SATA2 (times 2 and to be run raided)
Liteon DVD+RW (black)
LG Black CD-RW & DVD Combo (black)
OCZ GameXStream 700W power supply
Microsoft Windows XP Pro W/ Vista Upgrade Coupon

I am stoked beyond words atm.  I am so looking forward to this new rig.  This one has treated me ETREMELY well and will continue in service here for my wife for years still to come.  But she has really struggled in the last year, more so in the last 4 months, as games have dramatically increased in required resources.  I have a couple of games that are getting to an unplayable point, even at minimal settings :hmm: .

I was thinking the same thing when I looked at your rig. It's honestly a bad move to currently build anything but a C2D system, with the possible exception of an AMD 4x4 system looking a couple generations ahead in processors.

I think the 8800GTS (while extremely expensive) is still in the "sweet spot" of the dx10 ready cards right now, so that was a good choice IMO as well.

I'm sure you'll love it. I'm jealous I don't have the finances to build one myself (which is part of the many reasons I am looking to a 360).

Like I said, after researching some more, I just couldn't deny the performance numbers, nevermind the overhead potential that pretty much every serious OC site I checked into.

I've actually even revised the revision.  I'm pretty much set on ponying up the extra bucks for 8800GTX.  Again, the performance numbers are crazy insane, nevermind what they run up to in SLI.  And yes, this does mean at some point in the early New Year I will be nabbing another 8800GTX and SLI'ing them.

When it's actually nabbed, I'll post up what I end up getting and I'll snap a couple of pics of what it looks like together.

I dunno Aramis.  You can put together a pretty honking rig for some pretty small bucks right now.  But hey, to each his/her own.  I just play far too many PC only games to even think seriously about a console at this point in time.

Obviously I'm having a very public and torrid love affair with the 360 right now; but there's still those PC only games that I have to play. Medieval 2: Total War is a biggie for me. By next year I'll be looking to put a super rig together, I'm sure.

*Ssshhhhh...don't tell my Xbox.*

Hey DaSmerg, what made you decide on the Corsair Dominator 6400C4D's? If it's JUST because of the heatspreaders, then you're good, but don't expect to get a worth while overclock out of them. Any v2.x revision uses Promos chips instead of the Micron D9GMH that are on the v1.1's and other Dominator lines.

Check out the Crucial Ballistix PC2-8000s (or Tracer PC2-8000). They're clocking like crazy, mostly since Micron = Crucial.

They are bundled together with the mobo I am looking at nabbing.

No worries as now the whole new rig idea has been put on hold until the new year...sadly...but also good because having to wait means more new junk will be out.  Plus I'm thinking I'm going to do the old nab a part here and there plan.

I'm a huge Mushkin fan and will probably end up nabbin their RAM again.

Almost forgot to mention, YAY...my new rig has been up and running for a week now.  It is as follows...

Silverstone TJ09
E6600 dual core
Thermaltake Big Typhoon
EVGA 680i mobo
OCZ Gold DDR2 6400 EPP 1GB x's 2
EVGA 8800 GTS
Seasonic 750w quad-sli ready PS
2x's Maxtor 300gig SATA II (in raid 0)
Liteon DVD-RW
Logitech MX518 mouse
Microsoft Natural Ergonomic keyboard

Pretty happy so far.  Rather dramatic increase in performance over good old Socket A.  But it sits behind me now as my wife's computer/backup.

Sounds VERY nice!  cool

Makes my "new" rig look like a Camry sitting next to a Lamborghini... Cheesy
