I have an old-as-dirt MS trackball and it's starting to fail on me. Right now I'm trying to work out all the different options. I'm open as to whether I get another trackball or not - I haven't used a normal mouse in so longer for gaming that I'm kinda leaning trackball. I'm wondering as to what everyone here uses and their happiness with it.
EDIT: Also include what mouse pad you use. Apparently that's important with Laser mice?

I have a logitech Mx700. Mainly because it was rechargeable, and wireless. It also has a few extra buttons, the thumb ones work with most games, and let me do more things on the fly, like melee attacks, or communication. I have it on a black mouse pad, thats getting pretty dirty, but so far it hasn't effected the laser or whatever it is.
My only problem with it is placing the base/recharger, I can't place it to the right of the computer, so it's on the left, so the mouse needs to transmit through the monitor and tower, I've just had to position it away from the computer as much as possible. However this is only because of my room set up, if it was on the right of the computer, it could probably be closer.
I was used to a normal ball mouse for a while, but this one is hella sweet, and it's shaped for a hand as well. However for gamming, it's pretty awsome, I can get away with blasting the sensitivity in games, since it follows your movements so exactly. and those extra buttons come in handy all the time, even for lazy web surfing.

I have the Logitech MX510. It's pretty much the same as the 710 but it's got a cord. Personally I can't stand rechargeables/wireless. I want the thing to work long-term.
Ratpadz (or whatever) makes a good surface for it, but honestly I just bought a 3M "Precise Mousing Surface" for it on the cheap. It's slick and has worked well for me for awhile now. If you have your mouse sensitivity set pretty high you'll never need something huge as a mousepad.
Honestly though I could've just as easily used my desk- most laser mice are pretty sensitive these days and my faux-woodgrain works just fine.

I use this with my laptop and while playing, BF2, COD2.. Its the MX 1000 laser mouse, I got the combo w/ wireless keyboard at Best buy for like $99, it's all bluetooth so it works like 60, 70 feet away. When I first got it I was all over the house yelling at the wife "IS THE CURSOR MOVING NOW".....

I just bought a Logitech G7 for $19 including shipping. It's one step up from the MX1000 and Amazon had a rebate going for it... I also use an MS Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 that is a compeditor to the MX500.

Unfortunately no, it ended on 3/20. My friend wanted in on it too, but by the time I got to talk him it was done. I didn't learn about it until a few days before it was over... Amazon didn't advertise it, I found out about it on another forum. But so far, I have absolutely no complaints about the G7. Absolutely the best and most efficient wireless mouse out there. 2 batteries so there's no downtime due to waiting for a charge, and the detachable USB signal reciever are very handy features. I've noticed a difference in every game i've played so far!

I found an exception to this:

I found an exception to this: Whereupon I started playing BF2, I began to notice that even though I was a pretty good cobra pilot (in game), I started irritating some guys, as well as myself, by crashing for no apparent reason. Of course at first I just assumed it was lameness, on my part, but then I began to notice that my character would do an out-of-control whirlling at the most in-opportune moments. The final straw was when I was piloting a blackhawk, and my brother was in it with me, and for no good reason it just did a barrell role, and we crashed. I found out that it was my laser mouse getting weird reflections off of the wood surface of my desk, and when I purchased one of those fairly cheap "WOW" pads, which are just simple, thin sheets, the problem magically stopped! No more whirlling dervishes, no more barrell roles without warning! Just thought I'd throw that in there. :hmm:

Im with Aramis. I dont see the big craze with wireless mouse. Im not planning on taking it to the bathroom with me so why not just leave it attached to my computer.

because it's easy for the mouse cord to get caught on objects or even other cords which prevents movement during games. also, some people (like my grandma) have desks that require an esspecially long cord to reach the back of the PC. for keyboards though, i get wired. i avoid wireless when i can, but a wireless mouse, i feel, has a strong advantage...esspecially when it uses rechargeable batteries.
