it's time i built a new computer my current one is getting old, and some parts are close to quitting on me sad. only problem is i'm behind the times on what's good now a days. so i did some browsing and after looking at reviews and trying to keep the price low(so hard to do though) i came to these decisions. but i would love some feedback and any suggestions you have on new parts.

CPU - Intel Core 2 Quad 2.40GHZ

Motherboard - ASUS LGA775

RAM - OCZ Gold XTC 2X1GB DDR2-800

Video Card - GeForce 8800GT 600MHZ 512MB

Power Supply - OCZ GameXStream 700W

Sound Card - Creative Sound Blaster 7.1 PCI-E

Hard Drive - this is where i get lost, i have no idea what HDD to put in this machine. i want lots of space for games and other stuff grin, but i don't know what's good out there.

I picked up this drive when I built my current rig.

It's really a hard price to beat since you're looking at about, what, $0.40 a gig?

That video card won't work in the motherboard you chose since it's a PCIe board. It doesn't have an AGP slot. To be honest, you would be shooting yourself in the foot if you chose to buy an AGP board at this point.

I'm sure you could find something within your budget HERE that will work with that motherboard.

oh i know it won't work in the motherboard i chose for my new comp, but my old comp has an AGP slot on the mobo, so i figured i would buy it since it's cheap and looks to be an excellent AGP card.

If you're planning on getting a new computer somewhat soon, I would say just hold off and spend that $100.00 on your new rig.

probably not soon, i was gonna buy parts here and there over like 4 months. try and catch the parts i want on sale. but that card is cheap right now and would help my old comp be a little more powerful.

Buying parts here and there for computers is not really worth it, even if the parts are on sale. I'm sure you'd buy parts on sale and then in 4 months, those parts will be cheaper than what you paid for them when you bought them on sale.

As far as a quick fix for your current computer, that does look like a very good card.

yeah that is true, prices do drop pretty quickly. bah i'll just order that card. i'm still waiting to see if i get the LCD HDTV i ordered. if i don't get it i'll just spend the money and build a nice computer.

thanks for the help.

EDIT: haha i just checked the price on some of the stuff i wanted to buy and already some of the prices have gone down

ok i have more questions.

will my current mobo ASUS K8V SE DEluxe support these cards?

EVGA GeForce 7300 GT 512MB AGP
EVGA e-GeForce 7600GT AGP8X Superclocked 512MB Video Card

and which one is goin to be better bang for my buck? i'm leaning towards the 7600GT but i'm no expert on computer parts sad

i don't want to spend the money and wait for it to be delivered only to find that it doesn't work in my computer.

Both of those cards will work. Your board supports AGP8X and even if it didn't it would just run at 4X. I would also go with the 7600GT as well.
