I have a Thermaltake Xaser III mid tower case and I have an ASUS P5K motherboard and I would like to get my front panel USB pots working but...I'm a douche.

I should have remember that the pin connectors aren't universal, so when I look in the mboard manual, the pins aren't labeled the same in the book as what's written on the connectors. So I don't quite know what to do.

Any suggestions?

For the cable it's usually:
Red = Voltage (+5 DC)
White = Data - (D-)
Green = Data + (D+)
Black = Ground (GND)

Not sure how your connector on the MB and case are set-up/labeled, as it can differ widely among manufacturers.

What are the labels on each item (motherboard and case cables)?

Also, don't forget that most have _TWO_ USB connectors on a single cable to the front panel.  They are usually in a line on each side with a "key" pin that's usually just a ground.  There is also an "open" pin so you can put the "standard" USB connector on backwards.

The problem I have with these connectors on the motherboard is that the "standard" firewire (1394a) connector is laid out exactly the same way.  So you can plug a firewire cable onto the USB pins (or vice versa) have a merry time blowing up your hardware... rolleyes

We know that everyone in the hardware business loves standards. That's why they all have their own... Wink

Just be careful with those connectors and you should be fine.  As I recall, Mike's pin descriptions are correct.
