can you see the rippled shadow around my mouse? what causes that?

system specs in attachments as well as an example of my problem. this happened on my last box that just went out recently. the theme i'm using in the screenshots is a vista replica called Vista Insprat 2. the same thing happens when i switch back to the default xp theme. it wouldn't bother me so much if it was just around the mouse pointer but it's around everything.

the gpu i don't think is over heating since i just cleaned out the case of all dust and the fans work properly with plenty of room around the box for proper vent.

hopefully my screenshots reproduced the effect.

looks like a driver issues - downgrade to a previous driver.

otherwise take the card out of the computer and clean it out, then put it back in and make sure its secure.

this may not be an overheating issue at all... it could be a grfx issue dealing with the actuall chips on the board. sometimes cold solder under the gpu or the memory will cause these problems (the balls under the chips will dissconnect or have a loose connection from the board or from the chip itself.

i would test this problem myself by bending the board so that the balls would all touch and if that fixed the issue i would repair those chips.  this is something i dont recomend doing unless you know what your doing because things can be damaged or cause more issues.

i would first start out with a re-install, then install the drivers and see if that fixes it. it might just be a software issue, but this way you dont have to mess with hardware.

i'm beginning to think it's a driver issue again. or maybe even a card issue. just a few minutes ago i was in safe mode and then in vga mode(reinstalling driver) and it was fine. now it's back to having the ripples again.

good thing tax return time is coming up. i can't take much of this anymore.

thanks for the reply MO.

I think I've figured it out. My monitor has been set to 85hz this whole time. 3 days ago(right before my last post) I set it to 75hz and it hasn't gone back to that wavy fugly shadow since. What confuses me is I have the "Hide settings..." box checked and 85hz still shows... But not suitable for this aging monitor maybe? Both monitors that I've had in the past month since this has happened are pretty old CRTs so I wouldn't doubt this is what's been happening.

I'm just happy I can read and see everything without getting sick or bug eyed anymore.
