alot of buisness's in forgin countrys are changing to linux, not only because its cheap tho.... because its better in many respects.

america is still point and click world, and linux is getting closer and closer, it needs to stardize most of its command prompt for america and then it will be crowned the royal king - because every aspect of it is better.

most buisness's will use some sort of linux whether its bsd or unix or a *nix distro of some sorts... but its usually a backend, or something that runs there servers etc.  the terminals may or may not be windows based - but i have seen many *nix based terminals everywhere still in use today, alot are upgrading to windows based because buttons are faster or easier.

True, a lot of businesses use a dumb nix terminal or backend, but from my personal anecdotal experience, they're primarily using Windows. I'm not trying to argue that it's better, but it is more prevalent and used, and thus could be said to be better in that instance.

I just installed it, working with a 30 day trial disk I got as a developer.
Hopeing I get a free key from the boys at M$ next time they come to visit.

Anywho, Good news Aero is Sweet and it works on my POS, im always loosing which page is which etc, now i can just flip thru without opening them with windowskey+tab ....Thats niice..

Bad news my Motherboard is SOOO old that mr intel gave me the finger and threw me on the "screw you buddy, buy a new computer" list.
So no sound, but everything else seems to work nice.

important part, havent tried any games yet, but will do soon.  Prob not tonight but by the weekend for sure.

Search funtion is smooth and fast, Ive gotten very reliant on the Live messengers search as of late and this is perfect for me, saves alot of time clicking thru folders.

So so far, its a nice OS with some pretty new functions, the security is pretty standard fare for most antivirus/firewall proggies and the speed increase and graphics boost has also been noted.

All and all, worth the price of the full install disk, meh dont know, but for the nerd in us all the upgrade disk(considering you can do a full install with it Tongue) is a good price.

What motherboard do you have?  I have an older Intel motherboard (D845PEBT2) that works okay with Vista.  I had to "fool" it to get the sound drivers to install.  But they work fine.

If you have the SoundMax sound, then you can install it.  You just have to set the program to think it's running under Windows XP (or 2000).  That worked for me.

Vista works best with 4GB RAM

While Vista might run on 512MB of system memory and a processor that is at least 800MHz “its heart will not really be in it”.

it does give reasons why the 4gb mark is recomended.

HA, I have the same MB, so you say if I install the XP drivers for that soundmax then I should be okie? Havent tried that yet as I just installed vista last night.

@Mindless, im running a 1.6 intel, with 512 DDR, and a 6600GT OC, Vista works great, even the Aero desktop is smooth. Of course im fresh off defraggin my system.

Yeah, I opened the Intel driver CD and went to the drivers directory.  Then I right clicked on the SoundMax setup program and told the OS to run it in compatibility mode so that it would think it was running under Windows XP.  It installed just fine and when it rebooted the sound was working.  No problems.

I tried downloading the newer SoundMax software that was supposed to work with Vista.  But after that installed I still had no sound.  I removed that then installed the SoundMax drivers off the Intel CD after I setup the compatibility mode for it.

I can get that to you if you don't have it on the CD. (I can make an image of one of my CDs and put it on my website so you can snag it).

BTW, I'm running a GeForce 6600LE (256MB ram) on that machine.  The machine also has 512MB of PC3200 DDR RAM but with a 2.4Ghz P4 on a 533Mhz bus.

I call BS on this. These guys probably didn't test it because they don't like MS.  Check out the specs I posted in Mono's thread. I have a 10667 bus on only 1 of those systems.  The rest are 800 and on is 500. It runs fine on all.

If you don't like change, fine. If you want to use linus, then dos so.  Why don't you quit dissing something simply because you don't like the product?  Try testing it, really testing it before you say anything.  I can find articles all day long on good and bad stuff. Do you always let someone else do your thinking?

Document your statement about most companies in europe are running linux. They have the same companies over there that we do here for the most part.
