Need some help finding an anti-virus app that is either free or very cheap, but runs on Win2K Server. We have Win2K Server on most of our machines here at work, and for some reason our older copy of Norton's 2005 won't install on it. I tried AVG but they only have a 2-machine license for Win2K Server. And it's $40+ annually, which isn't bad, but I only need this for a single machine ATM.

Any suggestions? I'm not a fan of Norton or McAfee, but if these are the only 2 decent options out there, I guess I'll be forced to suggest such a purchase for my boss.

I use PC Cillin myself.  Have for a few years now and would reccomend it.

Think you might be looking at the enterprise version of it though.

AVG doesn't offer a free version for Win2K Server. It refuses to install (AVG Free Edition) on Win2K Server. The server edition is for 2 PC's or more. I wanted to go with the free edition but couldn't. Like I said, the server edition is $40 annually. Good price, but I only need it for one machine. I may talk to my boss and get it installed on 2 machines anyway. But for the time being, AVG is a limited option.

AVAST doesn't work on Win2K Server either. Again the operating system prevents single machine protection from being installed. Checking the site, AVAST doesn't even seem to offer a solution for W2KS.

PC Cillin site is both confusing and chaotic. Doesn't seem to offer any anti-virus for small businesses unless it's bundled with one of their suites. I'll keep looking, but for the time being all of the proposed solutions are not viable.

30 day free trial for PC Cillin right here.

If you don't need enterprise level software, then why bother looking at it?  Generally speaking, most enterprise level software...no matter small or big business...will have some sort of up selling...it's how they make their $$$.

I nabbed PC Cillin 2007...came with 3 clent licenses and it's good for 3 years.  It's what I reccomend to anyone cuz it does it all.

Go with the best.  I was a avid NAV user since 1995 until 2 months ago.  I got sick and tired of all the issues with NAV (personal and corporate editions), McAffee, and PC-Illin' so I have switched to Kapersky based on a little research and on some recommendations.

After reviewing the 30 day trial I was conviced that I have been a sucker for many years believe that the big names in AV protection were the better product.  It's not freeware and may be a few dollars more than other products, but I am very impressed with the protection levels, resource usage, and the interface.
