As reported over on GR.net...

Quote
GR:AW Delayed

Rocky- Ubisoft announced a few minutes ago that the launch of Ghost Recon : Advanced Warfighter is being delayed until February 2006.

"Today Ubisoft, one of the world’s largest video game publishers, is pleased to announce that it has decided to devote additional time to perfect the next installment in its award-winning squad-based military shooter, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter™. The game will launch worldwide for the Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system from Microsoft in February 2006."

Read the full press release here. It's important to note that ALL versions are delayed, nobody will be playing GR:AW before February next year. Thanks to UbiRazz for that clarification.

Couple of things from me...

If there were any doubts or was any confusion on where UBI's direction is, welp, it's just been cleared up.  Consoles all the way folks.  Not that I fault UBI for competing in a lucrative market.  It's just that if anyone had any kind of false hope of what GR:3 is going to be, this is your wake up call.  It's going to be a console game for the PC.  It might even be a great game, but it won't be the true succesor that GR classic deserves.

Next, I'm a little shocked that UBI didn't seize this opportunity to build a bridge back to the PC gamer community after the GR:2 wait, wait a bit more, oh it's cancelled debacle.  They could have released GR:3 for the PC ahead of the next-gen console release and probably won many gamers back in the process...even if the game is more run-and-gun-console oriented than a tactical shooter sequel.

Call it what you want, but in this gamer's humble opinion...a game that is clearly still under development aimed primarily at a platform that doesn't even start retailing to around Christmas time and it's first push-back date is early 2006?  Given UBI's track record and the game industry when it comes to under development games, I'm expecting to see this release like mid-2006, not early 2006.  As they say, fool me once shame you, fool me twice shame on me  .

Finally, not this game, nor any other much hyped next-gen game for that matter, has made me wanna go plop down the serious change that next-gen consoles are going to be asking at release.  I'd rather save the coin to invest in the PC rebuild I know I'll be doing in 2006 thank you very much.

After GR2 was cancelled for PC I doubt many PC Gamers have been dying for the PC version of GR:AW. I think most people have moved on. If it happens, it happens. If it's good, it's good. If not, whatever. I know I'm not holding my breath.

Believe it or not a lot of folks haven't moved on.  Still, even today, there's a load of GR classic players in the gaming communities I come from.  Really bizarre too cuz GR classic was a great game...for it's time.  It didn't take very long for it to start to show it's age...like a little after a year.

All of these GR classic die hards have all been aching for GR:3 too.

It's UBI, what can you expect? They still make some decent games, but the Tom Clancy line took a nose dive. I fear the Splinter Cell line is next.

EDIT---

The delay of the release date will not impact Ubisoft's revenue forecasts for the fiscal year.

What gamer gives a shit about it's revenue forecasts? Able to please the shareholders, just not the gamers, eh?

   I was looking forward to giving GR another shot. But the whole First Person Shooter genre is becoming so 'consolized', that RTS, Simulators, and strategy games are the only places to get that PC feel.

Oh Well.

Don't repeat too loud, but I wouldn't be surprised if they just cancelled it for PC.  SHHHHHHH!

Where do you see PC in that statement?  All I see is the 360 version has been delayed 2 Friggen months, Holy crap GROW UP ALREADY.  Anywho for the others that say its a port or it will be cancelled, Nope
The game is on its own engine(desial by Grin) WK over at GR.net got to see it first hand at the German Game show last month, Read his report.   GRRR im sick of defending ubi, I dont work there anymore, but some of you guys over reacte and read into anything and everything.  And dont give me the same ol
"well if they gave us some info"  Theres plenty of info Check GR.net archives, and maybe Ghost recon.com.

WHo knows what the game will feel like or play like, not I, I wish.  BUT for damn sure if it is good I wont idley sit back and let you boo birds destroy the community before the game hits the shelves.  The One thing that made GR a GREAT game was the community, and when a portion of community is hell bent on making sure everyone hates the game before it comes out then it wont be a great game then will it.
All I ask is that you wait and see, if its poop then its poop.  IF its good then play it.

Heh. Morning Talon.

I just want to clarify my statement.

When I read this....

""Today Ubisoft, one of the world’s largest video game publishers, is pleased to announce that it has decided to devote additional time to perfect the next installment in its award-winning squad-based military shooter, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter™. The game will launch worldwide for the Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system from Microsoft in February 2006."

This gave me the impression that the main focus of the game devs is the console version. Everything I am hearing, reading and seeing, indicates to me that GR has shifted it's focus to being a console game first, and any PC version (port) is almost an after thought.

Am I wrong?

If I am, and there will be another GR that has true effort into making it a great game specifically suited to PC players, like the original GR was,  I will be all for that and fully support it.

Believe me, I'm hoping for it. I'm just not seeing it.

Well Ubi knows that the PC fans first and formost Love and have made GR what it is, This is why they contracted the game out to GRIN to make the game "For the GR Fan By the GR Fans"

The HEAVY focus on the 360 in marketing dollars is just smart Busniess, M$ loves Ubisoft to death and was hoping that GRAW would be THE headliner for the launch of 360, Now thats delayed..  Now with a Forcast of 2.54 million units presold before 2006 of the 360 then obviously with a short list of launch titles  Ubisoft would love a gaurenteed  2.5 mil sales slot on their forcast.
But the heavy numbers in the PC realm is not to be forgotten, which is why instead of mass TV and Game Portal advertising for the PC version, UBis is opting for the smaller dedicated sites, and fourm word of mouth to spread the intel of the PC version as the GR PC crowd is more of a "Hardcore" audience.

THe games will be similar in theme and situations, but all content will be differnet, including design choices.  Some of the major Key features will be on both versions as it is a selling point.  But GRAW for the PC is being built from the GRound up a PC game and NOT a port.

Now that's good to hear. I just hadn't been able to find any real info on it. Like you said, they're not advertising that very heavily.

is there any predicted release date for the PC?

Same time as the Xbox 360 version.  They'll be launched together.

There's a big thing that Talon left out of his description of the building of GR:3...there has been absolutely no dev word on modding or mod tools for GR:3 other than saying a sandbox type editor will be included.

lest ye forget not, this is exactly how GR originally came out. (a differant type editor tho) Cheesy it was the works of our very own Mike Schell(Zazoo) who made much of todays mods possible.
