It's been a long time since I've been here.

I just wanted to inform you all that I went to the store with the intention of picking up the PC version, thinking it was out. It wasn't, so I decided to pick up the PS2 version, with the intent of playing it, and then giving it to a friend for cheap when the real version came out.

I can't do that. Why? Because if I gave it to a friend, he/she would probably cut of all contact with me. That describes just how horrible GRAW for the PS2 is.

Any suggestions on how to go about returning it? The sight of it next to Hitman: Contracts, Splinter Cell: Pandora Trigger, and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater just really hurts my feelings. I wouldn't do the injustice to the OG Ghost Recon and its expansion packs by placing it within fifteen feet of that box, either.

You remember how in Ghost Recon, you fought in wide open spaces against several dozen enemies (including vehicles) simultaneously, and you controlled up to six people? And how on Elite, it was actually semi-hard because you basically had one hit point and all of your enemies were basically trained by God?

In the PS2 version of GR:AW, you control yourself and one other Ghost, against a maximum of five or six enemies at a time. They have horrible accuracy, and your teammate is basically indestructable. On occasion, you can control an Apache, artillery, or a second pair of Ghosts, but it's basically a "point at the target they're supposed to attack, hit the up arrow, and then they're gone" setup.

The levels are basically multi-story corridors, and even on the hardest skill level, it's practically impossible to die from anything short of a grenade (or your own team's helicopter landing on you).

The controls are super clunky, too; the only reason you'll ever get hit it because it's harder than hell to aim.

I forgot to mention this before: you don't get to select your weapons in single-player. Basically, every mission involvs you being dropped off by your helicopter, armed with a completely different set of weapons than you had in the previous mission (aside from missions completed in stages), even though the missions are only minutes apart in the timeline of the game (apparently, it makes more sense to load a shit-ton of extra infantry weapons onto a helicopter, instead of simply letting you select a weapon and have the chopper carry an assload of ammo).

I haven't used that one in years.

I had yet another gripe about this game, but I forget what it was.

Oh, yes. For some incredibly stupid reason, you have to select between English, Spanish, and French before you start playing, every time you turn on the PS2. You'd think that they would have been smart enough to have those settings save on the memory card.

Oh, and, of course. Here's my personal favorite. YOU CAN'T GO PRONE! WTF?

I've been reading for a while, ever since the board changed to this new one, but I've never found a reason to register until now, to warn all of you of the evil that is GR:AW (PS2).

+1 what Beerman said.

Why was this "game" made?  Its terribly linear.  A gameboy DS version would probably be more fun.  The Playstation 2 has pretty much become just a system to play cookie-cutter japanese RPG's with characters who have green/blue hair.:cookie: :cookie: :cookie: :cookie: :cookie:

I want to try the XBOX 360 version though.  Too bad that every game that comes out for the 360 worth playing is ALSO available for the PC.  Except for DOA4, but thats just a fighting game.
