If you enjoy the Battlefield 2 style of game, then here's some great news: You can download WarRock, an online FPS which is extremely similar to BF2. It weighs in at 188MB, and the best part is it's totally free. View some WarRock Screenshots and you'll see that it looks very cool.

Information:
More or less a free version of BF2.

Download:

Screenshots

Features:

-War Rock messenger system provides powerful support to the game community. This system will become more powerful through the 'Trading System' between players.
-Various modes such as conquest and death match are available.
-Each time players respond, they also get to choose from five character classes: engineer, medic, patrol, assault and antitank. Each character has distinctive weapons and abilities.
-Players can buy their own weapon by battle point or game money, depending on level.

It looks to me as if it is coded on the Quake engine?

BE CAREFUL. I've heard complaints that uninstalling the game INSTALLS massive ammounts of spyware.

I don't like the sound of that TSE, so I'm just not going to uninstall this tiny 500 meg game. thanks for the heads up.

The game it's self is not that bad though, a couple thing different and I would easily pay money for it, even though it's graphically a little dated.

I'm gonna make all my suggestions on their forums. and hope that these rumours of spyware aren't true.

make sure you got everything cranked up, but I figured even on old machines it would look decent. what do you have at home talon?

jecks screens are close to what it looks like, just not the colour saturation. the screens on the website are prettied up. except for the bottom 3, with out soldiers, thats about what it looks like.

well i'd hang ona  bit, it seams that the shader by default is turned off. I think they are gonna patch it once its fixed.  Or maybe its just my machine that has the shader turned off idoono. It could look a bit better with a better shader engine, and  a fair bit more art.  If its meant to look this way for better fps, then so be it, its deacent for what it is.  But if they are gonna charge for it with future episodes then they gotta work on the graphics and animations.  LD is good, Speed and Balance is good, nice rpg element, only thing lacking is top notch graphics and animations.

the shader is off, however thats not the biggest concern, all objects are shaded and each shadow seems to be shaded/animated well enough. There aren't awsome muzzle flashes that totally change the lighting in a dark area, or perhaps I need to play on dark maps to see it.

I thought it was perhaps unreal 1 or quake 2, if it's quake 3 yeah it COULD be better, however only if it was a proffesional studio. This could looks closer to call of duty with enough work, but that just might take time.

I think though this is a REAL testement to the art of the videogame, if this is what peoples free time combined with something that just because public property can create. Calling it's graphics dated is false, cause your comparing it to people that were doing it as a job and/or their lifes passion. Don't compare the amature local musician to the rock star, both are using the same instruments and human voice but the work is worth different things to different people.

think of it as a glorified mod that dosen't require a base game, if that even makes sense.

Well Id have to say either they have been working on this for 2-3 years as a mod(most mod teams dont have the patcience for that long of a stint) or this is a small start up dev house.  Considering that Q3 is now open source, and no liscences are required to build a game with it, im thinking that this is the latter and future episodes will not be free. As you see on the site it does say episode 1
Thats the beauty thou, a small start up only needs word of mouth and digital distribution.  No publishers involved, and pure profit, only thing is either the studio has cash in hand to pay the team or... volenteer until profit shows.  Either way, a talented dedicated mod team could build a game and sell it no problem now, with digital distribution.
