Rainbow Six: Vegas not a review of the game, but a test on the engine that lies behind the game. The more one digs into Vegas, the more clear it becomes that the game has not been built to take fully advantage of the PC platform but is more of an Xbox 360 port. There are very few options to choose from overall and while there is a .cfg file in the directory, in fact possibly too many, without the proper commands it was near impossible to enable or disable features. The most glaring of which is the fact that there is no anti-aliasing in the video menu at all. That's right, you can't even tweak that and what you can is very limited. It is quite disappointing so as such we went with high on all settings and disabled hardware mapping because we chose to test a wide variety of cards. Something else we quickly learned is that SLI and Crossfire support are not enabled in the game. Perhaps this and other features will be addressed in a later patch but it is disheartening to see that Ubisoft is paying less attention to the PC platform with both this and the recent Double Agent game and there are also reports of numerous bugs and crashes within the game, conflicts with the 8800 cards, and much more. Unfortunately, we all know this is the trend with all but a few game software companies.
Consoles are where the big bucks are right now. PC is just an annoying side job for companies like UBISOFT.
Call of Duty 3 isn't even being made for PC. And I was in EB games the other night and PC games are all but gone from their shelves.
There are still some great PC only companies and Games, like the Total War series and hardcore Tank, sub and plane sims. But everything else "mainstream" is being shifted to console. Even the Half Life series is about to go console.
Oh well. Nothing much we can do. :thumbsdow

Half Life about to go console? what evidence of this do you have? From the recent valve hardware conference, they are more PC focused.

Half life 2 is about to be re-released on console, as is episode 1 and the soon to be out episode 2.
I read an article about how great the graphics are on the console (xbox?) compared to the PC.
Do some googling. It's out there. I'll look in a minute.

Ain't that the truth. I was in EB here in New Jersey today and the PC game section was this broken ass swivel stand with 20 games on it tucked in the corner of the store.

no offense but your half-life example hold no water. It's being re-released yes, 2 years after it came out on PC, hardly a focus to consoles. I'm sure the valve guys are working on EP 2.
Generally i agree with the console/PC comment.
And the PC has already surpassed the console performance. I have it in my desk right now. Quad core @ 3.2 with a 8800 GTX. 2gb 8500 DDRII ram. Smoke that consoles!
And screw those stores, taking money from the developers. Digital distribution all the way! I hate those stores anyway, nerd behind the counter with pimples up to his ass. Elitist nerd. 'no, we don't have that ^gawf, gawf^, as he verbally says 'EL OH EL'

no offense but your half-life example hold no water. It's being re-released yes, 2 years after it came out on PC, hardly a focus to consoles. Maybe you mis-understood me. I wasn't implying Valve would no longer develop for the PC. I simply said "even the Half-Life series is about to go console", which it clearly is... Half-Life 2 confirmed for Xbox 360, PS3The full console package will be comprised of Half-Life 2, Episode One, Episode Two, Team Fortress 2 (it still exists!) and an entirely new title, Portal. http://www.joystiq.com/2006/07/13/half-life-2-confirmed-for-xbox-360-ps3/The further episodes will also be available for consoles. As far as I can tell, they will be available for both PC and Console. My point was, the money generated by console sales was enough to entice even the Valve boys to head that direction. So in that regard, it holds a ton of ocean. .

Of course, some are more sophisticated and just pronounce it like the word "loll". My wife even does that. How weird is that. (Not to speak ill of my wife. She's the best thing that ever happened to me.)

I think Valve will be smart by staying mainly PC and still giving the console kids (I'm both) something to chew. Remember, Counter-Strike WAS released on the Xbox, but their PC loyalty never changed because of that. Also, HL2 was released on the xbox not to long ago, but still the PC loyal Valve shows no sign of converting. It is smart to make games for BOTH sides. Especially as consoles get more respect from PC gamers. And by console, I mean the actual physical console, not some of the Rouche Dockets that make online play a headache.
Oh and "Portal" looks like fun.

It will be interesting to see if "Games For Windows" breaths any new life into PC gaming.
