SWAT 4: The Stetchkov Syndicate PREVIEW

Computer and Video Games has a Hands On Preview of the new SWAT 4 expansion, "The Stetchkov Syndicate".

Some may argue that a lot of the new gameplay options woven into the SWAT 4 website are things that should have been in the original game anyway, rather than a particularly 'expansive' approach. However, from what I've played, the quality of the levels invariably exceed its forbear in style, substance, setting and imagination.

One thing I never understand though, is when a high profile entity takes screenshots to promote a game, why the hell do they do it with antialiasing turned off. Look at those screens...the doorway frame..the vertical shelf supports, everything looks like jagged ass 800x600.

You might want to wait, it seems they will no longer contract support to it.

It's not immediately clear how this deal will affect the future of the SWAT franchise, but we have contacted Irrational and Vivendi for comment. Community moderator BBE-Grunt was able to confirm that SWAT 4: The Stetchkov Syndicate would be completed for Vivendi (they own the rights to the series), but it seems unlikely that Irrational will continue to work on the franchise beyond the expansion.

So that means that irrational isn't going to be making any more SWAT games/expansions? So this could be the last one period, if vivendi dosen't see fit to contiune it. Hmmmm gives more incentive to the fans to go out and BUY the game, cause only mad sales will guarentee it's survival.

There's the off chance that vivendi will give the franchies to a decent dev team, new or old. one can only hope.

In any case, I'll have to charish this expansion even more so now, and keep my eyes open for another decent tactical shooter.
