I'm not one for leading the way on big franchise news or info, but this i had to share:

For the fans of historical RTS, one of the big boys is stepping back up to the ring.

Not only does it follow its old footprints left by the original Medieval TW, this one also allows you to play as the Aztecs in the New World.

The engine used is heavily expanded from the Rome : TW version, a complete  re-working of the battlefield rendering system, completely revised urban rendering and a enhanced  combat animation system, based on a variety of different heads, bodies and limbs combined with "1000's of mo-capped animations", and "sequenced attack combos" and evident weapon and armour upgrades on your individual troops.

I could go on and on, but read it for yourself.

Not only am I happy this is being released, I'm also a tiny bit suprised this made it to the "front page" cool

Anyway, the release date is for late 2006........................ (although I wouldnt hold my breath as we all know how these things get delayed)

This is EXACTLY what I was hoping for.

The original Medieval is still one of my all time favorite games. The mood, the ambiance, the theme; it all rocked. The battle system with the 2D sprites was a little outdated though, even when they released it. But the game as a whole made up for it.

The RTW completely revamped the game, and brought true 3D life to the battles. And while the Rome theme is great, it just didn't carry that same beloved feeling that Medieval had.

There was a lot of speculation as to what the next move would be for the TW franchise. Some thought the Napolean era, some thought the US Civil war, etc.

But to take the best of the RTW engine, make it even better, and go back and re-do Medieval is simply awesome, awesome, awesome.

I will be waiting anxiously for this all year.
