This is what it's like when worlds collide

Enemy Territory: Quake Wars pits the armies of Earth against the invading alien Strogg in an online strategic shooter. Players choose to battle as one of five unique classes in either the EDF (Earth Defense Force -- humans) or the barbaric alien Strogg armies. Troops use 40+ conventional and futuristic vehicles, deployable structures, and defense systems like quad-bikes, tanks, and alien walkers for epic ground assaults; or helicopters and anti-gravity ships to lend firepower from the air. Throughout each battle, teams establish bases, deploy defense structures, artillery, radar, and advanced forward-command systems into enemy territory while constructing and demolishing obstacles to speed progress and gain a tactical advantage over the enemy.

The average outdoor game maps will be huge - roughly one square mile huge, if not bigger. The goal is to optimize the size and hit Cloud and Wedgewoods sweet spot: 24 - 32 players but 64 players can be chosen!!! There is more in store for the initial release: arctic warfare, desert and jungle fighting.

I would love to go on in this article about the game but there is just too much to list so I found a few sites to give you the juice.

Team501 was kind enough to post some information on the types of classes and game intel for us. Also Crossfire was kind enough to take pictures of a recent magazine article and post them you all to see @ Xfire.be.

I highly suggest just going out and getting the January edition of Computer Gaming World and reading about it. The release date is set for 2006 but there is no word on what quarter it will be yet....

how it looks is more or less irrelivent to me. It'll look good enough, but even if it were to look worse then BF2( since they are toning it down to accomidate all the space and charecters), the big thing is that it SHOULD be much more stable. this is the third game on the Doom3 engine, and ID needs to get back in the game, so alot is riding on this. The fact that you can also set up various structures is nice, I know it's been in a couoke other games, but for a tribes/BF2 game it'll add SOOOOO much to replay. Also glad to get a final number on players, 64 max is wicked enough, and I am happy to see them trying to make it work for 24-32 as well.

EDIT- also if this game dosen't work out so well, unreal 2007 or a very BF2 like mod for it, will steal away sales. BF2 is out, and the lesson is that action shooters aren't that fun anymore when it's just charecters, vehicles work well, and can be easily balanced. even a few realistic shooters have added in vehicles, so making another doom game isn't a option, probably one of the big reasons doom3 and quake 4 aren't flying off the shelves, graphics don't mean jack if the game play is 10 years old.
