I keep forgetting about this game. The title is not very memorable or something. I'm definately going to be trying this one out.

Apparently it's buggy as all hell. I'm waiting for the real thing, as OFP was such a good game.

I played it a bit here and at my freinds houses, which are very different systems, and no bugs so far.

Demo has received mixed reviews.  Mostly seems to be computer related.  I'll wait for a single player demo and the next patch.  The MP demo is 1.03 and they still have some issues to resolve.

WARNING: Armed Assualt is not a true sequel, but a remake of OFP 1 with improved graphical effects.  The engine is still the same.

I bought it on a whim about a month ago. The single player campaign has some good missions that progress as you go. (duh) At first you play simple soldiers fallowing orders and getting a feel for the game. Later on you are commanding whole platoons and probably whole companies ( I have not gotten that far.) The multiplayer is primarily coop. I was a bit disappointed because I am a big adversarial fan. But, I was surprised. If you have TS, this game can get a whole lot better. Join a game, hop on TS, get into a squad, and watch what happens. You can just go off by yourself and try to take over the many cities on the two massive islands, or you can stick with your squad. Your squad leader will actually go to a building to request a mission. Defend, Search and Rescue, Armor, and more as you complete missions.

I played in a server where you had to be on TS to get in. We went on a search and rescue mission and had a blast. Our mission was to locate and extract a downed Blackhawk pilot. We took two little birds across the map, that took about 5 minutes. We decided to land about 600 meters away from our objective and walk the rest of the way. We got into a line formation and made our way over hills and through the woods. "Why did we land so far?" "We need to keep low." As we approach the 200 meter mark, the target area was blocked by some trees on a hill. "I can see some tangos on the hill right in front of you." " where, I can't see them?" "Slightly north of east." Nobody can find them. "They are gone, they went over the hill." We regrouped on the side of our hill and start making our way to the crash sight.  As we start moving up the next hill we see the mangled chopper, I hear gunfire to my left. "They got me!" "There ere two tangos 1 O'clock!" "Retreat down the hill and regroup, were going around." During the small fire fight, I didn't realize I had fired about 6 rounds into a group of trees next to my position, I quickly reload and form up with the squad. "Everybody stop, I see something." "There is a truck with a gun mounted on it, one tango manning the gun, driver, passenger, and a few standing around it." "Make sure none of them are the pilot." "Someone move further up North and get a look with you binoculars." The pilot was not there. We each crept up the hill and took position on the crest. I could see the group of tangos standing around the truck. "Everybody pick a guy." I chose one of the tangos standing outside the truck.I knew about three of us were targeting that gunner. "Open fire!" Our hill exploded with a hail of bullets. My guy went down, the n three other tangos ran from around the truck. "There are more!" I can hear the snap of unfriendly bullets whizzing past. the fight lasted about 15 seconds. Felt like 5 minutes. "Lets move on that position." No sign of the pilot. We can see the chopper again but there is nobody there. Three of us went to the chopper to check it out. When we get there we find no signs of the pilot. BANG BANG. "I'm hit." "Where from?" "I don't know." "Sounded like he was down the hill over here." Me and my buddy moved toward the direction of the gunfire. On the side of the hill we could see two men. "The pilot is standing right there." "Wait there is a tango laying right besides him!" I drop to my knee and and aim at the tango. I can see him raise his AK-47 through my ACOG scope. I squeeze off one round and he went limp. Two more rounds just to make sure, and we rush to get to the pilot. By this time one of us has marked a landing area with green smoke so the Littlebird can find us. Extraction was easy. Fly to base, drop pilot off. "I'll get another mission." "lets take over one of these cities." I reload at an armory tent, mount the .50 cal on the Hummer, and off we go.

I should mention that I was playing in a server running the "EVOLUTION" map. I really enjoy this game even with all the settings set down to the raw low. If you have a rig that can handle the graphics, they look good, but even low, the game is fun.

The Quarantine mod is pretty friggin cool too and the Author keeps adding and implementing new features, some are over the top IMO, but editable. Who doesn't like a good Zombie mod?

Well since the 1.12 patch it would seem that a good deal of real issues with playability have been adressed for most users and I'm sure you can find a Gold pack in some bargain bin somwhere, making it all the more worth the risk of checking it out. That ArmAEdit utility is frigging useful as heck if ya' want to "fiddle" with missions.
