Picked it up today. I only played it for a few minutes. I loaded up the first mission and find Fisher chatting with another dude in the back of an aircraft. I'm thinking, nice looking pre-rendered movie. Then the guy jumps out and I'm just standing there. I'm thinking, that's weird. All of a sudden it dawns on me, this isn't a pre-rendered movie! It's my time to jump! This game is freaking gorgeous! And all I have is a regular TV. Unbelievable. Makes the previous versions look like they were drawn with crayons! Wow.

Nice Thom. Now for Christmas get one of these.... http://www.gateway.com/programs/lcd/I have my Xbox hooked to one, set to 1080i definition. It's great. The 21" widescreen is great for gaming. Sign up for the free silver Xbox Live and get that R6: Vegas demo too.

My monitor is actually HDTV capable LCD (only 19" though). I have it hooked up to my regular Trinitron just because it's where my sofa is. Eventually I'll try it.

Okie for Both you guys, heres the warning. DO NOT MOVE THE 360 WHILE IT IS ON. its like a computer, a delicate one. if you move it while its on and theres a disk in there, you will scratch the disk, there is an actual harddrive onthe top of that thing as well and it aint screwed in secure like your pc so kid gloves is key.
Other then that its a kick ass machine.

I meant to ask since I didn't see it anywhere- does Michael Ironside still do the voice for Sam? In the commercials I've seen, it's some other guy doing his voice. I would be really disappointed if it wasn't him.
On the flip side, I'm thinking of converting to the dark side too (buying a console). Keeping up with hardware on the pc side is just getting too expensive for me.

Yep. Still Ironside.
I bought the collectors edition and there's some interview clips with him.
Also Aramis, go for the darkside and buy the console. I was hardcaore PC only, and I was instantly converted. Great graphics, super high frame rates, high definition, simple intuitive controls and interfaces; and no driver issues, no trying to balance graphics vs frame rates, no overheated cards, no constant patches and bugs, and no buying new parts every year.
After a week of playing Dead Rising, Splinter Cell: DA, GRAW, and now the R6:Vegas Demo on my 360, I may never go back to PC.
And in two weeks Gears of War comes out, anticipated to be the best game of the year.
Yesterday I downloaded (for PC) the long awaited Medieval2:Total War demo. Tried it out, had to struggle with turning down the graphics trying to get a decent frame rate. Couldn't get a decent frame rate. Then today I can't even get the game to start.
I turned off the PC and played a round of R6: Vegas on the 360 instead. It fired right up and I had a blast.
There might be a couple of PC only games that I will have no choice but to fuss with the computer over (like I will still buy M2:TW when it comes out, 'cause I'm a loyal fan); but for the most part, it's console for me for now on.
And my whole Xbox 360 system cost me less than my next video card would have. And the graphics coming out of the 3 CPU Xbox are far better than that expensive PC card would have given me.

Yeah, I have a friend that has one, and everytime I go over to see a new game I'm like "That looks so much better than it does on my pc, and it's on a big screen!"
I think I might wait until after the holidays to see if they get a price drop. I'm looking at getting it with the hd-dvd player if they ever come out with a good price/bundle. In my apartment in Missouri I "only" have like a 27" tv instead of the HDtv we have here at home, so I'm not currently in a huge hurry to buy one just yet.
BTW, speaking of console games, (I know, thread derailment) Guitar Hero for PS2 is a blast. I'd recommend picking up GH2 for xbox 360 when it comes out if you like the songs. It's a game that I was sure was going to be stupid until my buddy put that sweet guitar controller into my hands and I just started playing.

Okie for Both you guys, heres the warning. DO NOT MOVE THE 360 WHILE IT IS ON. . Has anyone had any problems keeping theirs sitting vertical? I want to set mine that way on my desk, but I'm afraid my kids are going to have trouble putting the disks in properly when it's vertical.

And, they might provide a way to use a keyboard and mouse with it. Once this happens, there is no reason the 360 will not be the way to go for first person games, or any pc title that can fit on a dvd. (most of them)

A console still lacks the ability to play mods. That's the only real drawback for me. Other then that, consoles are definatly the way to go.

A console still lacks the ability to play mods. That's the only real drawback for me. Other then that, consoles are definatly the way to go. Don't forget about the HDD, it is possible for there to be mods.[/quote] The only way to have mods is if you are required to install the game itself. But I doubt the current console fan base would quite upset with a switch from the ultra easy mode of just popping the disc in and you're off to having to install everything. Though it would be cool if they could do it without requiring you to install the game, I just don't see how. As I understand it mods these days are possible simply because you substitute one file for another or are able to code the game to load specific things. Without access to the actual game files, I don't think it will happen.
