I was going to come in and brag about how I was glad I preordered the game.

After installing DA, being forced to watch the ubi logo and a pointless loading screen, I loaded the training mission. I have no textures, and if I enter a building everything goes white until I find my way out.

The training mission has all white, no textured walls. Even on the Xbox.

LOL. Well, thats comforting. What I mean is that there are no surfaces or textures to apply them to in the game:

Here's a pic from the in game movie of the first mission:

Please refer to my thread "This is why I'm starting to prefer console gaming over PC".

I'm sure I don't have to tell you this Edge, but it's obviously just a driver issue; not the game. Try a different driver version.

Is your video card in the list of compatible cards?

I hear as of right now that list is actually very strict and there are not many cards that support its requirements.

If you card is in the list a lot of people are having problems who didn't install the direct x which came with the game.

Other then that i recommend trying out the demo to see if it works on your system. Cause the game is fun when it works, and right now its working great for me.

PS it requires Shader Model 3.0 so if your card does not support that, that could be the reason.

There is a patch out but I've read it mostly deals with MP. Might be worth a shot though.

That could be it right there. I wonder if the shaders can be disabled in the video options.

I love my Xbox 360 more and more everyday.

Yes, tons of people are on the UBI forums complaining about it. Ubi is basically telling them: "We don't know whats wrong, and we're not going to patch it, so have fun."

Having played the 360 version on my roommates setup I found the game just too hard to control. I guess I'm just mouse+keyboard fanboy, you won't break me buddy.

NVidia 6800 GTX. Supported.

To be honest, I fixed the game at about 3:00AM last night. I just wanted to give you guys and idea with the rest of my post what I had to go through to fix this problem. Ends up I had to roll back my drivers to 6 months ago for everything to work. :hmm:

It just seems rediculous that I paid $60 for a game with no patch support that I won't be able to play on the same drivers as Hitman.

I'm just so disapointed that UBI put out something that was so clearly not beta tested on any variance of systems. Shouldn't we expect our games to work out of the box? I don't mind updating my drivers every month or two, but having to roll them back to make the game playable? That goes without mentioning what they did to the MP guys. Non-existant lobby, laggy gameplay, too many glitches to mention, inability to connect to other players, etc.

I'm not the endless critic either, I had class at 800 this morning and bailed on my accounting class so I could come play DA.

I appreciate everyone's help. I'm just really worried about the state of Vegas now...

:-D I was playing the game all morning while I was supposed to be working, and let me tell you, everything they said about changing the MP game play is true, spies are little b****es now that MUST run from the mercs, you gotta be real real clever to be spies and you MUST work as a team otherwise there is no way to win.

I must say even though the game is harder I like the movement speed and the versatility of the spies. These guys run and move like crazy, but still within realistic limits. Its like a freestyle spy game in that when a merc sees you and your running, your are running and diving below crates and dodging between cover. It really is intense getting away from the mercs, and being merc it ain't easy, a lot of these maps are littered with cover for the spies. One good shot can kill them but often enough you end up putting clips into their area because they can evade real quickly.
Its really hard to describe the game play but IMHO it is very balanced and anyone has a chance on either team. Its just a real fun game to play. SP ain't bad either so far. I'm only a couple missions into it though. Anyway so far so good game is fun online, but it REALLY REALLY needs a total revamp on the server browser.

The demo worked fine for me, so I went out and picked up the full copy, worked okay for a few mins, I'll give it a proper test run tommorow night.

What is the player count for multi player, I was reading through the manual and it seems like 6 for adversairal and up to 3 for Co-op is that right? if it is I like that they're trying to up the count even if it's nothing crazy, My ideal would be 8 for adversarial and 4 for Co-op.

Ya know right now im playing 3 spies verse 2 mercs, and the maps a very large and the mercs have an easy time covering the whole thing, so I think an increase in players would have to come with a large increase in map size. Cause three mercs can basically keep a constant eye on everything.

Ohh and by the way the "easy" AI is insanely hard, the "medium" uses wallhacks, and the "expert" just kill yourself.

I'm playing this game, now that I've finished Vegas.

My impressions are that the game is quite sluggish. The response to inputs feels laggy (if that's a word).  Part of that might be the onboard sound on my Intel motherboard. It crackles a bit, too.

The graphics are great.  The game stutters a lot, though.  It's like it's loading things all the time.  That could also be Norton Antivirus trying to show me who's boss, though. (arrogant jerks think they own my PC - I turn off auto-protect when I play games)  Microsoft also thinks that it's okay to go get updates while I'm playing a game.  (Um didn't EITHER of you guys ever bother to check the CPU usage before you decide to butt in?)

I have had the game reboot my PC on several occasions.  Usually when loading a new level.  But twice it has done it after loading a saved game.

I am very disappointed with the addition of so many "mini games" to the game.  The lock picking and the hacking are great.  They're part of what Sam does.  But the others just seem to be added to keep those with short attention spans happy.

The first one was the skydiving.  That pissed me off.  Sam jumps out of the plane.  It's a cut scene.  The next thing I know I'm supposed to open his parachute.  What?!?!  I open it, but it doesn't open.  NOW what do I do?  I haven't a clue.  I look it up on the Internet.  You're supposed to hit the movement keys until you get another parachute prompt (which FLASHES by).  Or you pancake.  I HATE this arcade kind of crap being put into this game.  And the game manual is absolutely silent about this parachute crap.  So I had no idea what to do.

There are several more "mini" games added to the main game.  Most are just hand to eye coordination BS (like putting together bombs).  I can't wait to have to defuse a bomb.  The manual's description is for a game controller (slowly release pressure?) not for a keyboard/mouse.

It took me a while to figure out how to hack the new way, too  (I had to read the manual because nothing I tried, worked).  I was completely bumfuzzled about not being able to use the mouse anymore.  I don't know why they changed it.  They just did.  Probably because it's easier on a console.  But harder on a PC.  I prefer using the mouse.  But they took that option away.  I never got past the hacking part of the demo because of that.

I play Splinter Cell for the STEALTH aspect.  And the fact that he has to THINK to succeed.  I hate this arcade crap they've added into the game.

I'm on the second map at the JBA headquarters and I'm having to deal with building bombs, now.  You get 15 tries for 10 bombs, I think.  So far I've not managed to make even ONE.  Did I mention I hate this kind of crap?

I think the story is good.  I'm not thrilled with the design.  I don't like being FORCED to kill some people then have it count against me.  There are places where you almost HAVE to kill someone just to proceed.  I don't WANT to drag that poor SOB through the ice and kill him. Just let me out of the damn water.   Give me that option.

I've also found a few bugs in the game.  One is a doozy.

In the hotel in Shanghai when you are supposed to go from the 27th floor to the 24th floor,  if you go into the elevator lobby from the atrium at the midpoint (26th floor, I think -- maybe 25th) and you go to the right into the dark corner of the hallway right there are the elevators, you will fall through the floor and die.  I tried this twice so it wasn't just a glitch.  It's a problem with the map.

Also, on the ship in the ice.  You can go under the helipad (through the holes in the netting at the corners of the rear crane tower) and walk onto the rear deck.  The steps over the pipes back there have no collision data.  You're not supposed to get back there.  AND, you better save your game before you go back there.  Because you can't get back.

Apparently, the maps weren't tested very well.  Was this game a port from the XBox, too?  There are probably more holes in the maps.  Those are all I've found so far.

By the way, I've had no problems with rendering.  Even when I ran the demo on a Geforce 6600LE.  It just crashes on me sometimes (probably once per map).

[RANT]
The one thing I hate more than anything in gaming is TIMERS.  I absolutely DESPISE them.  And they use them on the JBA headquarters maps.  I don't like being given a time limit.  It might be "realistic".  But it just adds stress to what is supposed to be FUN.  I had enough of trying to meet deadlines at work.  I do NOT want that in a game.  Adding timed events to what is supposed to be a STEALTH based game is just stupid, IMHO.

I suppose that double agent isn't more of an infiltration than a stealth game.  I accede to that.  But Chaos Theory had timers, too.  I'd just like to smack the designer a good one every time I hit a timer in a game. AAAAAGGGHHH! angry
[/RANT]

Okay, I'm all better, now... Cheesy

I'm in a real bad way with games right now.

I think the money + time + aggravation versus what you actually get out of it doesn't add up anymore like it used too.

Or maybe I'm just getting old.  cool

Splinter Cell has a lot of little minigames, but I never found them aggravating. Many of them later on are optional. I figured out the parachute thing right off the bat, and appreciated it for the pure shock value.

I don't envy you disarming some bombs on the mouse/keyboard. That must be a pain. Many of the minigames aren't supposed to be hard so much as to take up your time, as you have a time limit to do certain aspects like... be a double agent. Smiley

I didn't have a problem with the timers in this game, as I found there was plenty of time to get everything done. Save often though... these can be a pain. I will agree that timers in other games can really piss me off.

Overall I really liked this game. It IS and ISN'T my favorite, in that it introduced many new elements and a great storyline, but there was a lot less darkness and true sneaking than in past games.

I had a glitch on the 360 where on the last level when I popped on my goggles and turned on the NVG's, I didn't get any green effect. It was like someone popped on a light or something. It happened even after coming in on different places/days. It wasn't game-breaking, but it was annoying.

I dunno guys... maybe you're becoming too picky in your old age? Tongue
