I'm gonna get a PS3. For what reason? Well no die hard ones. lol. I NEED a Blue-Ray player anyhow. That's right, I NEED IT! Just like I NEEDED a DVD in 1995. I also like the PS123 controller design better then the 360 one. Real shallow I know. Oh. And the PS3 doesn't sponsor Microsoft. Sweet bonus reason. I really like the Mac we got before x-mas as well for that reason. hehe...

Well, you might want to take a look at the new PS3 controller. It is different. It's also incredibly light because there's no rumble element (which I see as a drawback, personally). Oh and- M$ hate isn't a valid reason to me. Also, as far as backwards compatibility, I think you're ok Wilson but you might want to check a list as I know there are some titles that may not work. Assuming they keep the ps2 hardware in there for the US versions you should be set, although they are pulling it out of the European versions. Biggest drawback to the PS3 right now is price and library, in my opinion. They have no library to speak of, and the price is still too high in my opinion- regardless of what it costs to build one. Another thing to consider is your TV type- if your TV doesn't do 720p or 1080p (p, not i) then some games like Motorstorm will downscale to 420p- ie, standard definition. In my opinion the PS3 is something that I'd wait on. Meanwhile the xbox 360 (which I obviously own) is sitting at a really good place right now. However- there's rumors of an update to the console with an HDMI port, bigger HD and smaller manufacturing process that could dissipate heat better. So... your best bet may be to wait a bit, but again that's completely up to you. Were it me, I'd buy the 360 since I've been having a ton of fun with it. When the PS3 library matures, they work out some of the bugs, and the price drops I'll be taking a long hard look at it.

Get the 360.... the PS3 has no games.... it's barely even a gaming console.

i wouldnt get either... but if i had the choice of a free one, one or the other, i would go with the ps3! its not the best thing since sliced bread, but i hate microsoft and the games that come out on the xbox... i cant say that any good games are out for ps3 right now, cause truthfully, there really isnt. i guess i would use it mostly as a computer atm, but im waiting for metal gear and gran turismo!
i dont think that paying 40$ for a blue ray disk is worth it, at all! i know i can download all the disks i want, but they are like 25gb or larger, for what, i wasted all that time and money on bandwidth for what i could buy on dvd for just as good. even tho i have an hdtv, i still rather not see the capabilities, i can just upscale my dvd's just fine.

I went with XBOX over PS3 for 2 reasons:
1. More games 2. Lower Price

Both.
Problem solved.
Buy a 360 now, enjoy all the great games (GRAW 2, Gears of War, R6:Vegas, Splinter Cell: Double Agent, Dead Rising, C&C3:Tiberium Wars, Madden 07, on and on....)
Then next year, buy a PS3 after they've gotten their act together a bit.
I could be wrong, but from what I've read/heard, the PS3 is the superior product, a real processing powerhouse, with lots of capablilites far beyond just console gaming. But it just isn't ready right now, and has no real games yet.
I definately wouldn't pass up a 360 right now. I'm having a blast with mine. Next year I'll be looking at the PS3.

you don't need either with your gaming tastes B. remember, you like cutesy games not war games or driving games. so you'd be better off with a DS or wii. hell even just a dreamcast.

A guy on my floor returned with a 360 after Spring Break. Been playing a little COD3 and Gears of War - both are a lot of fun. The graphics are very nice, as well. I think Mono's idea is a good one. If I had the money, I'd follow it.

I just have to say that "more games" isn't really a reason for the 360. It only has more games because it's older. Current releases offer as many new games for both platforms.
The real reason I'm going for the PS3 is that I'm a sucker for japanese RPG. And the 360 has very few good such, just like the XBX didn't have them either.

i do like the japanese games on the ps3 too, like rpg's etc. however i hear alot of game manufactures are out late with there games because now they are developing cross platforms - meaning the cost it takes to build the game for ps3 is to much and dont want to loose out on any money, so they are making games for xbox too. ps3 really put developers in a spot, espeically those that were ps3 only are now going to be cross platform, and because of the learning curve (cause they dont want to invest in the time and money it would take to learn ps3 effectivly) ps3 is much more expensive, espeically when you see how easy it is to make games for the xbox, just everything about making games is easy - i think too easy that no ones really trying to put some thought into there games. but then you have ps3 where they are just trying to get a product out, so less thought goes in. its a loose loose situation, but overall everyone will be happy because not a damn game thats good to compaire to will be released. just my feeling.

Does PS2 do 1080i? PS2? Never as it's SD and not HD. PS3 however has 1080p but there are no games made for that in the world yet.

I bet SC:DA runs in 1080p on PS3 as well. The last article I reed said there where no games in 1080p, but it was also since before the 360 got a 1080p upgrade announcement, so not the latest around. The issue with 1080p versus 1080i is also in the way the game is constructed. Only a cable and TV won't make it happen as the console has to produce double the amount of graphics for the screen when running 1080p versus 1080i. So it has to be taken into account during the design of the game to run well on its a really high resolution... Not even the almighty consoles can take everything you throw at them.

the ps2 (yes two) has an hd output from a 3rd party. its not expensive and it looks good, i dont know if its 720p or 1080i but no more than either of those. i think the kit comes with some cords and a setup dvd.
im not sure if this was a released product or not, but i heard alot of stuff about it late last year.
ps3 on the other hand can do 1080p - it has the capability too, but does the firmware let you? and does the game run good enough at 1080p? the games often dont run well at 1080p so they run it lower, i think one game does it - but i dont know which one.

If anybody wants to donate a 360, PS3, or both, for testing, I'd be more than willing to spend my time and make a report.
Of course, I'd have to keep it to make 1 year, 3 year, 5 year, and 10 year-out reports.
