I've noticed that in Oblivion, as you gain levels the monsters and NPC's are also gaining levels. The result is that your character never really becomes that badass he is supposed to become. If I'm up in the 20's for level I shouldn't have to worry about peon town guards kicking my ass if I step out of line. Nor should I be able to win ANY challenge I face regardless of my level.

I like how in some RPG's you'll stumble into an area with really high level bad guys that requires you to run away and come back later (after leveling up). I'd also like the occasional satisfaction of come across a camp of level 1 bandits that I can slaughter with ease. Arcanum was great for this. Once you hit the higher levels you could pretty much act with impunity -- killing town guards and monsters with ease.

I know the dev's set up Oblivion the way they did to keep the game challenging, but I'd like monsters and NPC's of every level in the game at all times. I think it really takes away from leveling up to have the game match you. I know my character is a lot stronger, but it certainly doesn't feel that way when everything I fight is just as strong no matter what my level.

Anyone know of any mods that create a wider variety of monster/NPC levels?

Here. This is what you want, and then some. Scroll down the page, to the mod description. it includes NPC leveling limiters.

Along with this interesting similar point of view.

Not all NPC's are leveled to you. Certain things change such as what caves are populated with based on your level, and certain high level mobs are leveled to you, but that's about it. Aside from the town guards, they are always your level +10.

X3 looks great, but I don't have time to start another huge game. I'm already wasting time on Oblivion that I had set asside to study ahead for this semester! :yikes: Cheesy

That author summed up my thoughts perfectly. Thanks for the mod, I'll give it a go! Cheesy

I was using some mods similar to that, and it made the game more fun for me. It's still tough, but it's a little less annoying to see bandits running around with elven armor on and such.

I played the game for a damn long time, but kind of set it down without finishing it. Fix, I think you'd be proud how much I played it, but overall it just didn't appeal to me after finishing all the sidequests for the guilds and such.

lol, so long as you stopped playing because it got boring and not because of "omg, wtf is with the jaggies?!".

You've actually played it more then I have. My toon is like level 30 or so but I've hardly done any quests. I haven't played in months actually.

I played through the main quest, all the guild quests and a handful of side quests. Then I got bored so I downloaded the editor, made some uberweapons, and killed just about eveyone in the game (except for the quest characters who can't be killed).

Weeeee!
