Anybody looking forward to C&C 3?  I was beginning to think that Generals and Zero Hour were the last we would see of C&C.  Hard to believe that was over three years ago (2003, I think).

I'm not sure if the new one will run on my system, but I really liked C&C Generals (and Zero Hour).

I had to play the game on the easiest setting.  And I never did get through the last China mission with that ambush at the beginning and that scud storm at the other end of the map.  But I liked the Generals and ZH a lot.  Most of even the tough scenarios got to be pretty easy once you figured out the "trick" to winning them.

I still play the skirmish maps.  Usually against two opponents at the same time.  (both on easy)  One opponent on medium gets a bit challenging but I can usually win those.  And that's only if we start out with the same resources and both have to build a base from scratch.  I have never beaten one on the hard setting, though.

I logged on to Xbox live, and there was a preview video there for C&C 3. Is it being released for 360?

That it is, Mono.

I'm not sure about the whole alien race being added in. I liked the fact that the series hadn't really gone beyond this world. It'll be interesting to see it plays out.

I'm glad it's on 360. I don't have to worry about my PC upgrade yet then.

The AI is tough. I can only regularly beat "hard" ("brutal") if the map is 2 player and I'm using the US Super Weapons general. On larger maps the AI Hard player usually spreads out to other resource lots much faster than I can (and then overwhelms me with a horde).
I've found the US Super Weapons general to be good against AI Hard because a cluster of EMP Patriots is good at stopping a horde and preventing return fire at the same time. Also, the US:SWG's many long range strike capabilities make it easier to take out the AI's supply centers and high-level tech buildings, which usually buys me enough time to "catch up" and eventually win.

If the AI:Hard uses a super weapon I'm pretty much toast. The AI is MUCH better at recovering from super weapon strikes than I am. So my first couple of particle cannons are purely defensive -- to destroy any super weapons he builds. Sometimes it's a race. I've had a few close games where I've started bombarding his Nuke as it's getting read to fire. Sometimes I get it in time, sometimes I destroy the building seconds after he has launched.

One thing that does work well for me with the super weapon general is promotions. The AI throws so many units at you that you quickly get promoted if you just stack some EMP Patriots at your base entrance and let them destroy everything.

The thing I don't like about the Easy AI is that it always attacks along the same path. Once you see where the AI comes into your territoriy from you just place an assload of base weapons and units there and then focus on other matters. The AI will never approach your base from any other angle. I know it is "easy" but it doesn't have to be stupid

Isn't another problem with easy, that they don't build super weapons? I seem to remember that the AI seems top cap itself off at a certain point on the tech tree.

That's definately the way with a lot of RTS's; BFME is definately one. You can't play against easy, because then half the game is left out of play.

With Generals, I thought the 'Generals Challenge' was the best part, because of the extra AI personality they put into it. The constant taunting and jokes from the other general is great.

Blow up the toxin general's buildings.. "Oh, I didn't need that anyway".

Yeah, I don't usually use the superweapons anyway.

I love the General's Challenge!  "Everything must GLOW!!!..." Cheesy  Or, "I'll take this time to build more defenses. No, wait.  I'll build more tanks instead! Ha! Ha!".  Those wacky generals! cool

There's an error in the China Boss general's dialog in the challenge when she says "We shall mediate and consider our next move."  She _should_ say "We shall meditate and consider our next move."  When I heard that the first time, I wondered what mediation was going to do for her... Cheesy

@Mike, I've found the laser general the easiest to defend with.  The lasers have VERY long range sometimes and will strike things that look way out of their range if they are triggered by something closed. They also are effective against infantry which the EMP and normal patriots don't appear to be.

The lack of the tomahawk missiles for the laser general is a pretty big liability but those laser patriots almost make up for it.  The unstoppable bombers are pretty nasty for the SWG, too.  They can be shot down after the strike but you can't stop them from hitting you.

Does anyone else have problem with playing the Air Force general against the Laser General's base?  After about 10 minutes, mine starts pausing for a few seconds and those pauses get longer and closer together until the game just locks up.  It only does it on the Laser General's base when I'm playing as the Air Force General.  I found that if I turn off the rain for that map, that the pausing goes away.  But I like the rain.  I haven't tried it on my newest rig, here with the GeForce 7600.  Maybe it won't do it anymore.  It didn't do it on the GeForce 4 ti4600 card I had. But it did it on the 5700 Ultra and the 6600LE.   I haven't tried it on a 7600, yet.

im not sure if you guys are talking about the ai, in such a way, but i think it was pritty good but had many many problems.

for one, it felt there was no medium dificulty. it was either way to easy or way to hard.

i would play along long time on hard, it would get so unbearable (on any system hardware) because so many units were deployed (even with only two teams, let alone 6 teams)... so being on hard made it even harder because of such a huge slowdown, i woulld just give up.  beat it a few times on hard, but overall it was really really hard.  easy was too easy and found myself just trying to find a medium diffaculty by adding more teams on easy or something of the sorts. (i forget i played long ago).

i played so much that i got really board of the game, now im left wanting a new game with better coding and ai.

single player games were always fun, but multiplayer was really where you earned some learning lessons.

playing against pro's really was the hardest part - i had more difficult time playing a pro, than i did even the hardest cpu component - i think because the cpu had a set patern of ai movements and certain paths etc.
