Madison (WI) - A Senator from Wisconsin wants to mandate an extra tax on video games because he claims they are linked to juvenile crime.

Personally, I'd like to see a 1% Tax on everything Senator Erpenbach buys.
It could be called the Moron Tax.  Thumbs up

That's the problem with these idiots, they think anything they themselves don't own must somehow be linked to evil, wrong, bad, and criminal. Or, he simply looks at a group of juvenile delinquents and uses deductive reasoning to point the finger.

If that's the case, welfare moms should pay taxes. There should be extra taxes on skateboards, baggy pants, designer clothing of all kinds, sneakers (as opposed to hiking boots, which the lazy, fat, and criminal don't wear), sugary cereals, and hoodies.

And while we're at it, let's tax single parents more too, because they're more likely to raise rebellious kids. Oh, and let's not forget the overworkers. If you work more than 40 hours a week, you should be paying a "contributing to the delinquency of minors" tax.

Bullshit. What the world doesn't need is more taxes. What it does need is more responsible parenting, or at least more accountability for the actions of a child by the parent. Where the kid lives, what they have access to, and what they learn from their parents- these are the things that contribute to crime. It works both ways though. A parent who is involved can maintain a better upbringing regardless of location.

Decrease government pay and welfare, increase education funding and give tax breaks to parents who get involved in their kids' lives. Soccer moms and volunteer coach dads should get huge tax breaks.

It's really sad that idiots like Erpenbach manage to get elected to office.

How would a tax fix anything? They'll have to pay more for the game, but they'll still get it. This Erpenbach guy just wants to line his pockets a little more, in my opinion.

When you have to pay European prices you can start to complain. Until then, SUCK IT UP! I'm not gonna feel sorry for you. Tongue

I guess the 40GB PS3 is at about 399USD right now... well it's also at 399EUR! Which is about the same as 599USD!

I agree that it won't solve anything though. Wink

Yes, but it's only "more" expensive if I come to Europe with my US dollars and try to buy one. For people earning a wage paid in Euro's it isn't really any worse (assuming 399EUR spends in Europe like 399USD spends in the US).

Which leads to you having to pay even less for the consoles compare to us, as I haven't seen the console prices go up over there because of the falling dollar. Wink

Have console prices in Europe gone up? What did they used to be?

No. But from our side, we could have bought 1½ consoles in the US for the price of the same one in Europe. As the dollar is worth less for us the consoles become less and less expensive in the US as long as the prices stay the same over there. Tongue

But if the prices stay the same in the US, you still pay the same and notice no difference. Wink

Yes, which is the point I was getting at.
Besides, look at it this way: people in the EU are being paid in Euros. This means that all of you, on average, make more money than those of us in the US being paid in US dollars (for the same jobs). So you can afford it! SUCK IT UP! Wink Cheesy
