In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

- John McCrae

The poem (In Flanders Fields) was a poem about WWI written by Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae in 1915 after the battle at Ypres. Since then all Canadian's have worn poppies (which grew, and still grow) in Flanders Fields. November 11th is known to Canadians as 'Remembrance Day', in which we honour those who served in WWI, WWII and the Korean War, and give thanks to those who fought and still fight for our freedom.

Here you can read about the history behind our day of remembrance, how the poem and tradition of the poppy came to be aswell as everything to do with our day of remembrance.

How we remember.
