For the old GR players, finally the mod that has been dubbed the "GR2 we never had" has arrived.

CENTCOM Released
What do you get if you take around 40 skilled Ghost Recon modders and a massive vision for a new unofficial Ghost Recon expansion pack from Jay136? Over a year later you get what is undoubtedly one of the most accomplished Ghost Recon mods ever - CENTCOM.

A very brief content listing might go something like this...

    * 12 mission campaign
    * 12 new maps with command maps.
    * User interface and mouse icon.
    * New music and sounds.
    * New vehicles.
    * New textures and decals.
    * New weapons, pulled from the Mod Team's real world experience
    * New gametypes

There are also brand new innovative features never seen before in a Ghost Recon mod.

To see such a huge undertaking completed and released, considering the challenges the team faced and the logistics involved in pulling it all together is quite astonishing, congratulations to everyone involved!

Note that CENTCOM wieghs in at a massive 300Mb and requires 7z or WinRAR to uncompress.

Sounds like I have another mod to check out. I'll be reinstalling GR today.

Thanks for the heads up, Chems.

Great news!  I know what I'll be playing tomorrow night.  Cheesy

I must be further out of the loop than I thought.  What's a "7z" file?  I've never heard of that extension before.

I have to say that this is by far my newest favorite mod.  The character and weapon skins are some of the most beautiful I've ever seen, and the missions/maps are fantastic.  But that doesn't mean it has some issues.  Even after downloading the map patch, mission 3 at the prison never seems to end, even though I've completed all of the objectives.  The weapons are a little disorganized and finding the weapon you want is a bit hard to do.  Also, most of the reticles are quite nice, but they really seem to get in the way.  But besides these small flaws (which can easily be fixed Wink ), this is the best mod I've played in a long time.

Hmm. WinZip 9 thinks it's a blank file.  I guess I'll try the 7zip program on it on my test box.

Technically you may be able to play with just the 1.4 patch if Centcom doesnt use any Island Thunder content (not sure about that)

As for the mission 3 thing, you need to take the hostage all the way back to the insertion point, then come back and go to point Delta which is just outside the house the CIA agent was in. Or use the cheats autowin to end the game Smiley

I felt that the content was good, skins and maps especially, but the missions werent scripted very well in some places, and that the weapon kits were a bit random, and the ret thing takes some getting used to but I quite like it now.

i bet for under $15 you could find a new copy of IT and/or the gold edition(a couple $ more) of GR at your local game retailer. besides, you're missing out without having IT. in my opinion of course. :wink:
