I loved watching his action flicks from the 80's and early 90's when I was younger (Out for Justice, Marked for Death, Above the Law, etc.).
His movies never had much story, and they were a little cheesy, but he played a good badass and his movies had some good fight scenes. I knew he kind of faded into obscurity and started making a lot of direct-to-video movies. I also knew he put on a little weight but sh*t... they played one of his newer movies on TV and the guy must be pushing 300 now. He can't even do his own fight scenes anymore. They always shoot him from the back or with the head cropped out so you can't tell it's a stunt guy in a fat suit wth a greasy ponytail. Pretty sad considering Seagal started as a stunt coordinator and has a black belt in Aikido.

Van Damme also faded into obscurity, and is also doing the direct-to-video deal, but at least he has kept in shape.

If I was an action star who put on a shitload of weight I don't think I'd make a spectacle of myself by trying to make even more action movies...

There's something funny about a supposed tough guy needing a little musclehead to lead him around as his bodyguard.

All I can say is, thank God for Tony Jaa.  Took the wife to see The Protector last week.  Dear. God. He. Rocks.  No wires.  No stuntmen.  Makes Jacky Chan look like an amateur.

Yep, that's the guy.  Also in the new film The Protector which, IMO, rocks hard.  The guy uses no wires, no stuntmen.  Some of the stuff he does is just mind-blowing.  I like the fact that he's not real showy.  His style in The Protector is actually a bit slow, but it's very powerful.  Great fight scenes.  Smiley

Coolies!

I'll keep an eye out for The Protector when it comes out in the UK. (we're about a 2 weeks behind you guys when it comes to cinema releases!)
