Can we get a second opinion? Something of a brief review or synopsis without spoiling it? I was really interested in seeing this movie. Of course, Cloverfield looked really good in the trailers too, and disappointed me.

But I've liked at least 2 other M. Night Shyamalan movies - Signs and Lady in the Water. Is this one that bad?

Wow! Not even worth adding to the DVD collection?

Maybe if it's in the bargin bin.

Bad acting, bad writing, preachy and melodramatic, and a plot that hooks you in during the first 20 minutes and then goes absolutely NOWHERE. The R-rated "horror" aspect of this film creates more comedy than terror -- I actually laughed at the some of the death scenes.

@Lazer:
I've liked just about all of M.Night's movies. Lady in the Water really disappointed me, but even Lady in the Water was MUCH better than this movie. But don't take my word for it:

While I don't usually take much stock in what critics say, they're spot on here.

I'm just trying to save people from wasting $8.50 like I did.

Huh, I still want to see it.  I mean, I'm not expecting it to be a horror flick or even a thriller, I've never understood why Shyamalan's films get marketed as such because they aren't really.  But I read Ebert's review, and I feel like I might also be in that small minority that like it.  I like thoughtful movies.  I dunno.

I like thoughtful movies.

Then you will probably be disappointed. I'm a huge fan of apocalyptic/post-apocalyptic fiction, and there a are SO many books and movies out there that have done this subject in a far more convincing and thought provoking way.

But that's just my 2 cents, I'd be interested to hear what you think after seeing it.

Mike, I respect your opinion. After all, you seem far more intelligent than most of the people I run into on a daily basis. So, I'll wait for the DVD and rent it.

If I were heading out to the movies I'd probably see The Incredible Hulk instead anyway, as that would be my first choice. Despite most of the comic-based movies thus far having been mediocre at best, I'm a big fan of Ed Norton's (The Illusionist was one of the best movies I'd seen so far this century). Besides, Liv Tyler. Need I say more? And as a bonus, Lou Ferrigno did the voice for The Hulk?!? Damn. Brings back memories...

here is what i wrote for the airsoft forum....

After having my arm twisted i saw it last night. Certain points (read: "science") of it are more wank than a teenagers lonely night in on the internet, however it does have more suspense than certain other Hollywood "thrillers" that seem to enjoy gore over the psychology of the event. but then that isnt anything new from m knight shamamalalaamamalamamanananauton

Unlike Signs it keeps the suspense going all the way through, although looking back the moral of the story reminds me a little of captain planet from robot chicken.

Mark Warhlberg patronising character grates (although the talking to the plant in the house is a much needed relief to the suspense), I cant decide if the girl, although cute, is hot or not, and the kid does alot of looking scared and not actually much else.

I'd give it 6.75 out of 10. Given the choice i would watch this twice over Indiana Jones latest jaunt.

Hilarious! Too bad he uttered those words before he dropped the guy from the sky scraper or he would'ave been a great super hero version of South Park's TIMMY!
Apparently IhrU-bahn doesn't stop at that episode. But I did find some other ones.
Darth Vader calling his "boss" after losing the Death Star. Let's see if I can go back and find it...
... I guess I could.
