The popular Tom Clancy video game SPLINTER CELL was set for a movie adaptation at Paramount but as you may have noticed, nothing really has happened with that. It was announced, Peter Berg (FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS) signed on to direct and...that was about it. The lack of progress stemmed from the regime change at Paramount where former head Sherry Lansing left and was replaced by now president Brad Grey. Berg has since left the project to direct THE KINGDOM with producer Michael Mann and DreamWorks is set to acquire the film from Paramount. The script by Berg with John J. McLaughlin and JT Petty has been ditched and Daniel Pyne (THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE) has signed on to write a new script as part of the new package. The SPLINTER movie is just one of a number of Clancy films in development including RAINBOW SIX and RED RABBIT, the next film in the Jack Ryan series. The latest installment in the SPLINTER CELL video game series, "Chaos Theory" was released in March of this year.
