We all like our share of guns here, don't we?
Well, we had an employee showing of "Shooter" last night. I wasn't sure if I wanted to go, considering i'd get home at 1:30 in the morning (i'd get to bed around 2:30, as I still had some homework to do, then get up in 4 hours for school). But, it was too good to pass up. And thank god I went.
All I can say, is this is a must see. The sniper shots on this movie are unbelieveable. You thought Saving Private Ryan's sniper shot was badass? Just wait till you see this movie. There were 20 or so of us in the theater. The girls weren't into it as much (they'd kind of cringe with some of the shots/violence). The guys though... Lets just say, the bulk of us were standing up from our seats, screaming at the screen, clapping, and repeating "Holy fucking shit" over and over again (excuse my language).
One thing I liked about this movie, is there wasn't so much of a love part to the story (some action movies just aren't cut out for love plots on the side). It's purely guns and violence, but in a balanced enough form, that the story line doesn't get boring. The story line actually was really decent.
There are few movies that I actually say to myself "I am going to buy that the day it comes out." Very few. This is one of those movies, that I will be picking up on the release date. It's a must see. I've actually never seen the same movie twice in theaters... And I know for a fact, I will be seeing this one again in theaters here soon.
Shooter comes out tomorrow. If you have nothing to do tomorrow night (or even during the day), go get a ticket for this. I'm sure it will be the best 6-8 or so dollars (well, whatever the price it is where you live) you've spent in a long time.

I'll only echo the sentiments of Headshot about the film.. I will say it differs from the book in that it cuts out some back story, and brings it into a more modern era, but Bob the Nailer is here to stay. I hope they continue the series

First, sorry for spelunking.
I saw this movie on DVD last night. I _really_ enjoyed it. I've been a student of long range gunnery for a long time. And when he started talking about the variables that would affect the long range assassination shot I really got into it. The author did his homework. And I appreciated that.
I am a little tired of the movies trivalizing gunshot wounds, though. Even with the adrenaline that comes with getting shot it is _very_ difficult to maintain your composure and your wits after getting shot. And it can take a _long_ time to recover from a gunshot because of the shock, trauma and tissue damage that can come with one (cavitation from gunshots can be very traumatic). But our hero was back on his feet and acting like he'd gotten scratched within a few hours.
Anyway, it's a good story. And I'd like there to be a decent sequel.

Personally I thought it was very meh. I honestly wasn't very impressed. Wahlberg's character gives this big spiel about life and death and there's this big point made of military duty and comradeship in arms...
and then he goes on to wipe out a whole army platoon without a backwards glance. Those men were only following orders.

The ballistics stuff was interesting, but the plot was a bit goofy and some of the stuff in the movie was way too far fetched for me (even for an action movie, I mean he trained the FBI guy to be a pretty bitchin' commando sniper in like a few hours...)

Not to my knowledge, but by then I was kind of disinterested anyway. I'm pretty sure most mercs don't wear matching uniforms.

It's based off a book called Point of Impact, I like Aramis thought it was meh, mainly because i read the book and the book is a hell of a lot better. But the guys were actually Mercanaries (in the movie) but in the book they are South American (Columbian Special Forces). The book is a good read. The movie was over dramatic. It would of been a great movie if they actually followed the book...but no they had to make it all fuckin today....God. Did I buy it? Yes. Do I regret it? No, I like the ballistics of it all, but damn it...they ruined a good book.

In the book he is actually a FBI Sniper, but for some odd reason, the movie he's a rookie. That's one of the things that pisses me off about the movie. They screwed up the back stories of the characters.
