saw an ad about this movie last movie last month and it caught my attention. now that there is a release date for the movie i'm excited to see it. it's supposed to be opening the Toronto International Film Festival on September 4 , 2008 and is tentatively scheduled to be released on Remembrance Day, November 11, 2008.

Paul Gross wrote, directed, and starred in the movie. i've always liked his work so i hope this will be a good movie.

Quote
The $20-million Canadian film "Passchendaele" focuses on the experiences of Gross's grandfather, Michael Dunne, a soldier who served in the 10th Battalion, CEF (Canadian Expeditionary Force) at the Battle of Passchendaele (also known as the Third Battle of Ypres)

Looks interesting.  Really like Paul Gross and I saw a teaser for his Passchendaele project a while back.

Please don't take offence our American brethern but it will be really, really nice to see a WW movie from a Canadian perspective.  Hopefully this brings about a few WW (both 1 and 2) movies from our perspective as Canadian forces do have some simply fantastic stories yet to be told from both World Wars.

I'd also like to see some WWII movies told from the Aussie perspective.  They were in there thick mixing it up with the Japanese in the Philipines, Burma and the rest of South East Asia all during the war.  From what some of my father's older friends told me, some of those Aussie guys were pretty scary.  The Japanese' worst nightmare on a windy moonless night.  Eek!

Looks good, I hope the love story doesnt become a crutch, rather than a composite part.

I went to have a look at the wikipedia page about it (im pretty certain the germans where the first to come up with the term "storm troopers" for their own troops, not for any one else),

any way I saw this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Passchendaele_aerial_view.jpg

Urban combat, de-urbanising an area..... holy moly, expect some very grim combat scenes!

I'm also hoping that they get a volley from the "mad minute" the Lee Enfield rifle could produce.

Paul Gross, Paul Gross, Paul Gross......

Where the hell have i heard that name before.......... aha
