I've gotten pretty hooked on Eastern European/Russian techno and dance lately. I really like the beats and I think the Slavic languages fit perfectly with the melodies, rhythms, and tempos.

Unfortunately, I know very little about what is available from this region (I do have a crap load of Eurpoean industrial and EBM though)

Closest example I can think of to give you of what I'm looking for is O-Zone -- the Romanian group that did the song "Dragostea Din Tei" (The one from the viral video of the dancing fat kid lip-synching). Not exactly what I'm looking for, but close.

Anyone know any artists/songs I can check out?

Thanks!

AKA "Numa numa" for those who don't know the song he's talking about.

Try Safri Duo; they're a percussion duo who are, in short, awesome.  No lyrics to speak of, but its definitely dance from the region.   is my other post on them.

Sorry to hijack the thread but LMFAO at my search query!!!!!

I thought I knew of the song you were talking about so I googled "Dragostea Din Tei" and scrolled through looking for a video or something to hear it then I saw this link and fell the hell out!

http://thunder.yansa.net/dragostea.html

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?

To be honest though Zaz, I think you would find some of DJ Sasha's stuff is really good and DJ Sinister has a nice mellow drum & bass.

I found a link on google that takes you to a download of DJ sinisters album

http://www.drumandbass.de/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=4140

I think you would find DJ Energy to suit you the most though. the most popular club album being "Revolution On The Dancefloor". And if you're bored in your search, check out DJ Ben @ http://www.partyben.com (free downloads)

http://www.partyben.com/PartyBen-GoldenBoulevard.mp3

^ Awesome remix, he also has another with Greenday lower down.

Edit:

Actually as I googled some more, I think you would like this one, its "Despina Vandi" and a canadian firend of mine in Montreal sent me a song of theirs a few years back and told me about this Greek techno. I like the song and thought it was well done, I found a video on you tube of it,

Song "Ipofero" but it's also known as "Ypofero". I really like the break in the middle, the slow down, I always do the robot to....the wife laughs when I listen to it on the mp3 player and knows when its playing when I start turning into optimus prime.

Thanks guys, but I've pretty much found most of what I wanted for electronic/techno and industrial acts and styles widely available in the US and Western Europe (although I'm always looking for new stuff, so thanks for the info/links!).

What I'm looking for here is a very specific type of sound that I can't find out a lot about because of the language barrier. Russkiy Razmer's sound on some of their stuff is pretty close to what I'm looking for.

And while we're on the subject -- I've also been collecting Asian techno/industrial. I've had better luck with this over the last couple of years (mainly due to the popularity of anime and Asian cinema, which uses a lot of this music), but I am always looking for more stuff to check out.

Thanks!
