EDIT: mods, could you change the title of this thread, I messed up. Change it to like, how do you get your music or something that you think fits.

I both buy and download music. Depends on the band and what the album is like. I do like to support the bands I enjoy listening to, but some albums are not worth the money they charge. That doesn't justify downloading the album for free, but it's so easy it's hard to resist.
For instance, when the newest Tool album 'Lateralus' came out, it was $29.99 CAD. Thirty bucks for a single CD is completely ludicrous. I downloaded it a long time ago but picked up the fully legal copy about a year ago (at the low low price of $20.00 CAD...still too high).
But with things like iTunes and eMusic I'll probably buy everything because now I can just pick and choose which songs I want. I won't have to shell out money for an entire album I may not like all the songs on.
So basically, I download some songs and buy some albums.
Or, like recent events have led me to do; I buy the albums and then am forced to download them because I can't rip them.

I purchase music on CD if I feel that the artist is worth my hard-earned mula. I usually download songs from some sort of P2P program after hearing said songs on radio or through another source. I often will collect a variety of tunes from such programs, from a variety of musicians, then make a collective CD. If I find myself downloading a lot of songs from one specific artist, then I'll go out and buy their latest CD to show support.

I get mine off my cd's or the internet. Today was the first time I downloaded a cd from iTunes. After looking into it I'll never do it again. I don't understand all the restrictions they place on music that was legally purchased. If anything, they increase the demand for illegally downloaded music.

I've bought a couple albums this past year, but rarely. Usually when i dont want to wait, or risk getting lame copies. I'll buy them on itunes. I find it lame that they only have 128k or so version of it. I want it 320k. So now i just download them on bit torrent. I've bought CDs over time and lose them, so i'm tired of it. Plus you can get discographies really easily and at a good bit rate.
By the way, about the restrictions, i've used this program called 'Jhyme' which logs you into itunes and then it converts your copy protected file into a unprotected song. So you do have to own it, but removed the restrictions.

DSanchez- any of those programs don't currently work with iTunes 6. I had used that, being new to the mp3 purchasing scene and didn't realize all the implications. Jhymn would be a great program if I was using iTunes 5 or lower.
The reason it's even a big deal is because while I can play music at work I can't access the iTunes store to validate my purchased music, and thus cannot listen to the only online music purchase I've ever made. Not exactly a sterling mark for the music industry and the RIAA.
