Halo movie set for 07'

"The expansive deal to bring one of the most popular video games, HALO, to the big screen has finally closed. Fox and Universal have finalized the contract with Microsoft to bring create the HALO movie with all three agreeing on a 2007 release. The two studios will play Microsoft $5 million against 10% of the gross for the property and Universal will distribute here in the US with Fox taking international sales. While those financial aspects of the deal were largely agreed to back in June when the three first came together, what still needed to be ironed out was the amount of control Microsoft would exercise over the film. The company has wavered some since its initial demands and now both Universal and Fox will provide notes on the current script, which Alex Garland (28 DAYS LATER) will then rewrite. The game's developers won't have final approval on creative decisions but will be consulted on all decisions, including finding the director, which is to be the next assignment. Microsoft is already planning to have the third installment in the HALO videogame franchise ready to release at the same time as the movie to optimize marketing potential."

Universal will oversee the production and is handling domestic distribution, while Fox will take foreign distribution. The studios will split revenues 50/50 out of a shared pot, adds the trade.
